".....and the love of many will grow cold." Jesus Christ (Matt 24:12)
Most of the reviews here are very old, so I wanted to write my experience over the past 1.5 years.
idk if it's my skin color, age, or ethnicity but I found this church to be rather cold, unfriendly, and unwelcoming .I attended one of their "neighborhood groups" for a while and a couple of times to the Sunday services.since I work every Sunday. At the least the church is the epitome of socially awkwardness or at the worst simply unloving, uncaring, and unwelcoming. At least they were towards me. It seems they were looking for a particular type of person and I didn't fit the bill. So if you go, maybe you ll fit the particular profile they are looking for and they ll be welcoming . Maybe you won't and you ll get the cold shoulder , socially awkward treatment. I just want you to know IT IS NOT YOU . IT'S THE CHURCH. You ll just have to keep searching til you find ppl that actually believe and practice the faith that Jesus taught , Love thy neighbor as thyself ".
I was taught as a child , "the more education they have the less they know." There seems to be a lot of PHds here, but they have forgotten kindness, caring, and hospitality which are the hallmarks of Christianity . I made no friends, found no community, felt unwelcomed, and definitely did not find a church.
This church epitomizes why Americans hate church.
That was my experience. Maybe yours will be different.
Best Wishes on...
Read moreChurch of the Cross (CotC) is one of the most welcoming churches that I've ever attended. I have gone to many, many churches where I enter the sanctuary, sit in the pew, and leave without talking to anyone. At CotC, though, people take the time to get to know you.
Members of the church talk about CotC as a "missional family," and I have found that it truly does feel like family: people take care of one another in Neighborhood Groups, bring meals to one another, have feasts during Easter and parties throughout the year, and just hang out a lot. In a city where so many of us struggle with loneliness, having a family at church means a lot.
While the community is what drew me to CotC, the preaching and worship are also great. Following the liturgical calendar helps deepen an appreciation of the life of Jesus and the life of the church. Easter is something special at CotC, particularly the Easter Vigil service on Saturday night before Easter when we retell the story of creation, fall, Israel, redemption, and resurrection through Scripture, music, visual art, and other media.
CotC has really helped me deepen my relationship with God and grow as a disciple of Jesus. I have also seen others ask questions about faith or take the first steps in exploring who Jesus is at this church. It's a place for people wherever they are on their...

CotC is a welcoming community centered around neighborhood small groups. Sunday worship services are grounded in liturgical tradition while welcoming fresh expression via extremely talented music directors and integrated visual art. Pastoral staff and parish are dedicated to pastoral care (knowing & ministering to congregants) while also delivering consistently thoughtful and engaging sermons. This is a place where you can be known, even in the transient...
