Target — Local services in Boston

I love target, but yesterday's visit was so frustrating and I had to go back twice in order to make an exchange. The customer service people who helped me were rude and were not trying to help at all.

I made an order pick up for a pair of shoes in size 8.5. When I went to pick them up I said I wanted to exchange them for the same shoes in a different size (8) and she said that was not possible and that I would have to return the original pair and then buy the second pair. However I clarified that I didn't want to do that because the shoes were now a different price than when I originally purchased them the day before.

I did not pick up my order and instead just purchased the same pair in a size 8. I left the store and contact Target's chat feature and I was told that I could exchange the same pair of shoes for a different size as long as it was within 90 days and I had the receipt. Which was all true.

So I returned to the store and was told the same thing. The new person who helped me, told me that she heard that I was in before and that I'm not allowed to exchange the same shoe for a different size because it's a different item number. Not only was I upset that I was being told something different from the Target Chat and return policy, but I was being told that Target staff members were gossiping about and my return issue. I asked if I could please speak to a manager and so she went to get someone, told me that they would be right with me and then proceeded to tell me all the reasons why she was right and I was wrong. In addition she also told me that I couldn't make a return on the same day that I purchased it, which is absolutely ridiculous! She said we could try and she tried and it didn't work while we were waiting for her manager to come assist. She told me that she wasn't being difficult and that she wished she could actually help me, but that's the policy.

Finally a manager came over and the customer service person explained the situation. The manager then immediately fixed the situation, returned the shoes in the wrong size and exchanged them for the correct size with the original price that I paid. Between the lack of employees on the floor and merchandise being locked up due to theft it's always something with this location. I frequent here a lot only for the simple fact that it's the one closest to my house, but this past Sunday blew the hell outta me! My Iphone 15 was stolen from the guest service desk that I walked away from for less than 5 minutes then returned when I realized and the workers acted oblivious. The short light skin boy at the security booth near the entrance checked footage and confirmed a "customer" stole it then just stared at me in silence like he was slow. I was asking about descriptions and time stamps, it was like pulling teeth to get information. When I asked if the individual was still in the store because I had just passed her, he claimed to be unsure. I came back 30 mins later asking about security footage and he said due to privacy reasons I wasn't allowed, but I can file a police report(which I did) and they can view the footage (knowing damn well police aren't gonna do anything)and take the necessary measures from there. He then confirmed that once I left he rolled back the footage again in which the individual was still in the store at the time that I originally asked him. Once the evidence was confirmed, the immediate next steps should have been looking to see if the individual was still in the store. I should have never had to ask simple questions to get clarity he should have already been on it, because by that time it was too late. In all seriousness I could've gotten my phone back. And with the lack of information that I was pulling for, I'm supposed to actually believe a customer truly stole it and not an employee? Okay. Nonetheless his self awareness sucked in that moment, so clearly they have them yellow reflective jackets for the aesthetic cuz they never look to be securing a damn thing up in there whenever I go anyway. Went to find a men's black button down shirt for my job. I couldn't find any so I asked an employee. I am a trans man but APPARENTLY I wasn't passing well enough. I asked the employee if they had any in stock and she told me I was in the wrong section and directed me downstairs to the women's section. Understanding the subtle transphobia I decided to press the issue asking "oh, there's men's clothes down there too?" she looked me up and down and said no so I clarified and asked if there were any MENS black button down shirts and her only response was asking why I was looking for men's clothing before giving me the same directions back downstairs. I decided to deal with it and since gender is nothing but a social construct and trying to regain confidence in my gender identity, to just go get a women's shirt for my shift that day and find a men's shirt elsewhere later to avoid prolonged dysphoria. I followed her directions. There wasn't anything of the sort. Not even any similar items. Closest I could find was a fluffy white blouse. She wasted my time and greatly insulted me. I normally fear for large corporations putting out pride merchandise in June without actually being LGBT friendly but this one is a definite nope. I pray she quits her job or is fired before June or else so many insecure young LGBT individuals are about to go receive more homophobic/transphobic remarks while just trying to show their pride and acceptance in themselves. Target, your employees' behavior makes or breaks your store's reputation. If you have employees making subtle or outright blatant transgressions to customers, they will never return. They will post bad reviews, make signs, start protests, tell their friends, anything they can to spread the word and try to minimize the amount of good people entering the store and getting hurt by...
