Took this tour on a beautiful Sunday in July and highly recommend!

The house is a lovely surviving part of the Beacon Hill neighborhood, Charles Bulfinch's architectural legacy, and the contributions of the Nichols family, in particular Rose Standish Nichols to the city of Boston. The home features a large collection of the Nichols family furnishings, objects, and changes throughout its 100+ years occupancy before becoming a museum in the 1960s. Some my personal favorite features are a 1930s radio, coal burning stove from the former kitchen, an ensuite bathroom, the small garden area in front of the house, and wood carving furnishings made by Rose and other family members.

The home also gives a lot of information of the accomplishments and contributions of Rose Standish Nichols and her family. From using the house for events, parties, and discussions on politics and community concerns to living their everyday lives. It also features Rose's love of tapestries and gardens that led to her becoming a landscape architect.

The home is located in a beautiful area of the Beacon Hill neighborhood surrounded by a variety of businesses and residences. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Purchasing tickets in advanced is recommended due to limited group sizes per tour. Definitely an interesting house tour to take about a part of Boston beyond...

The house itself is beautiful and the rooms that you will visit are very well presented with a lot of items owned by the family. We had a small group of three and our tour lasted around 25 minutes excluding time in the shop! The guide was very friendly and allowed lots of opportunities for questions. It was quite a brief tour that gave you an overview of the family who owned the property and also the area and architecture but if you're looking for an in-depth house tour this one may not be quite what you're after. I'd recommend checking opening and tour times as they are quite limited. There's also a small shop downstairs too with postcards...

I had such a great time visiting this place where I could imagine myself living in this house. Liz was extremely knowledgeable and welcoming. She also tailors the tour base off of your interests. The interior and decor were really interesting especially I got to learn about some history and how people at the time use their furniture differently in this Bostonian federal house. It was a really rewarding visit. Highly...

We had a wonderful tour (from Anne I believe) who took us through the home and gave a history of the Nichols family and the house. She obviously loves doing the tours and answered all the questions from the group on the tour. The house is well maintained and furnished in the appropriate style. Well worth a visit if you are interested in Boston history, especially about Beacon Hill homes and daily life.

We visited the last day of our trip to Boston, and this was one of our favorite museums! Liz was such an educated, kind, and funny tour guide! The picture here is Liz telling us an interesting fact about this corner, which you’ll find out when you visit 😉 Such an interesting part of Boston History! Also 10/10 gift shop 🫶
