Visited Mooo…. last night to celebrate a friends birthday and kick off our trip to Boston on a good note. Little did we know that Mooo…. would greatly exceed our expectations and set the bar very very high, in the best way possible. It’s not often that I go to a very high-end establishment, but Mooo…. was the perfect choice to fill that need and indulge in something more over the top than the average dining experience. From start to finish, everything was perfect. From the way the kind host sat us at our table and fixed the table’s dress to accommodate our own seating arrangement, and the gentleman that continuously had our water glasses filled and wasn’t afraid to make small talk with us and even crack a few jokes. Then comes the service… should I say hospitality, better yet. Mauricio took care of us, and he nailed everything down to the way he carried himself, not only just to us but to his other guests in the restaurant. As someone who works in the industry myself, I tend to notice the very little things, and it was apparent that Mauricio does too, that is something that I sincerely appreciate. He seemed to have a very well rounded understanding of the menu, and gave us his input and recommendations on courses and cocktails. At the end of our service, we were able to speak with Ryan, who to which I believe is a manager at Mooo…. Ryan not only queried us about our dining experience, but also gave his own personal thoughts on being a Boston native and living the city life. This establishment runs on real people providing a real experience that seems like it can only be curated at Mooo…. And the truth is, it really only can be THERE, and their team knows that and takes pride in it.
I’m much more well-versed in steps of service compared to a curated menu. In many cases of today, high scale restaurants will give amazing service to compensate for any lacking in the menu, and vice versa. It can be difficult to hit both. But, not here. To say this was the best meal of my life is an understatement, but I can’t find the words to describe it otherwise. The food always came out hot and fresh, and I’ve never ever in my life had a steak cooked more perfectly. The price point for their steaks in the grand scheme is honestly not bad for the dedication they put in for cooking them to perfection. Everyone at my table commented on how it was the perfect sear and temperature. Then came the sides, which were all absolutely delicious, filled with flavor in every single bite, the Lobster Mac being my favorite of the ones we tried. You must try the Wagyu meatballs as an appetizer and dip the house bread in the leftover soy sauce, it was to die for (thanks, Mauricio!) Cocktails were absolutely delicious, packed with balancing flavors and garnished with love and precision.
The ambiance of Mooo…. says a lot in itself. Dimmed for dinner, quiet but still bustling with happy and full guests, and not a speck of dirt or crumbs on the floor or walls or anything. The restrooms were clean as a whistle and you could view the wine cellar downstairs, which was pretty cool.
Mooo…. is a place where you are going to be paying for both food and experience. For quality and effort. After spending some time here, I’ve realized that they are more that worthy of charging what they do. Many reviews point out that things can be a little pricey, but for the portion sizes and the effort that goes into getting your meal in front of you, it’s worth it. I will recommend this spot forever now if you’re wanting to dine somewhere and simply just get taken care of the entire time you’re there. They make...
Read moreIn the heart of Beacon Hill, where cobblestone streets weave stories of old, lies Mooo, a culinary gem that beckons with the promise of refined elegance and exceptional fare. On a recent evening, my partner and I stepped into this sophisticated steakhouse, eager to indulge in its offerings and experience the warm embrace of its ambiance.
As we entered, we were greeted by a chic, modern interior that exuded both style and comfort. The soft lighting and plush seating created an atmosphere that felt intimate and inviting, perfect for a romantic dinner or a celebratory meal. The scent of expertly grilled meats wafted through the air, tantalizing our senses and heightening our anticipation.
We began our culinary journey with the Mooo Beef Tartare, an exquisite starter that showcased the kitchen’s commitment to quality ingredients. The finely chopped beef was beautifully seasoned, accompanied by a quail egg and crispy potato chips, adding a delightful crunch to each velvety bite. It was a dish that danced on the palate, awakening our taste buds with its fresh and vibrant flavors.
For the main course, I chose the Filet Mignon, a cut renowned for its tenderness. Cooked to a perfect medium-rare, it arrived on my plate as a masterpiece, adorned with a rich red wine reduction. Each slice melted in my mouth, the flavors deep and satisfying, while the accompanying truffle mashed potatoes were creamy and indulgent, embodying comfort in every spoonful. My partner opted for the Seared Scallops, which were beautifully caramelized and served atop a bed of risotto that sang of the sea with every bite. The dish was a harmonious blend of textures, showcasing the chef's skill in marrying flavors.
As we savored our meals, the service at Mooo was attentive yet unobtrusive, striking a beautiful balance that allowed us to enjoy our evening without interruption. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu, offering thoughtful recommendations and ensuring our glasses were never empty, which added a touch of elegance to our dining experience.
However, as the evening wore on, we encountered a slight delay in receiving our dessert. While we were eager to indulge in the Chocolate Lava Cake, it took longer than expected to arrive at our table. Though our server graciously apologized for the wait, the delay momentarily dampened the otherwise smooth flow of our evening.
When the dessert finally graced our table, it was a sight to behold—a warm, decadent creation that oozed rich chocolate upon the first gentle prod with our forks. Paired with a scoop of velvety vanilla ice cream, it was the perfect sweet ending to our meal, a comforting embrace that left us in a state of bliss.
In conclusion, Mooo is a celebration of culinary excellence, where every dish is crafted with precision and passion. The quality of the food shines brightly, and while there were minor hiccups in service, they did little to overshadow the overall experience. As we stepped back into the enchanting streets of Beacon Hill, the warmth of our evening lingered in our hearts, and we looked forward to returning to Mooo, where the art of fine dining...
Read moreLocated on the ground floor of the swanky XV Beacon Hotel, Mooo is a unique steakhouse. Unique in the decor especially; it doesn't look like your typical steakhouse at all. They've opted out of the dark wood notes and instead went for white and off-white tones complimented with some dim lighting.
We arrived a few minutes early for our 8:30PM reservation only to find out that we had to wait a bit. No problem, their large bar was accommodating and made waiting for our table only a minor inconvenience. Except that we waited.. and waited.. and weren't seated until 9:10PM. No real apologies and nothing from the kitchen as a nice gesture, we were seated in a completely different area of the restaurant than what I had originally planned out. Famished, we decided to just move things along.
We kicked things off with an order of roasted bone marrow ($19) which the kitchen split onto two separate plates - a very nice touch on their part and one that didn't go unnoticed. The panko breadcrumbs sprinkled on top made for a nice contrast and added a bit of crunch. It was a superb start to our meal.
Next came our entres, which in our case featured an 8oz filet mignon ($44) for my wife and an 18oz ribeye ($56) for me. They absolutely nailed the temp on the meat and we also had the flight of sides ($21) with our food. The flight features whipped Yukon gold potato, creamed spinach, truffled parmesan fries and exotic mushrooms. We also added sauteed onions ($6) because why the hell not. The concept of having a flight of sides is really, really awesome and they were some of the best I've had in any steakhouse. The sauteed onions were okay but the real highlights were the whipped potatoes and the creamed spinach. I was very impressed and all-in-all, our meal was stellar. Even the complimentary bread rolls which came before our bone marrow appetizer was tasty.
We did however hit another inconsistency with the service which took nearly 15 minutes to bring us the check, and another 10 to come back for my card. It was kind of a bummer since they're known for their service.
All in all Mooo is definitely a premier contender for being one of the best steakhouses in town. The food is scrumptious and while expensive (even for a steakhouse), it does make for a nice, occasional treat. The decor is a bit whacky but if you're willing to overlook that, it'll make way for a memorable meal and experience. We'll definitely be back and hope for slightly better service next time. Until then, I'll dream of...
