Staff was very nice and came by to check often. No complaints there at all.
Food was pretty good. I got their version of an Irish Sampler which had servings of the Stew, Shepherds Pie, and the Chicken Pot Pie. The chicken pot pie was absolutely delicious and I wish I had more of it. The other two foods offered were good but other than the mashed potatoes the flavoring on the shepherds pie filling and the stew was almost identical so it felt like i had two servings of the same thing. The bread they served with the stew though was spectacular.
The most disappointing thing was that we experienced was related to atmosphere. It was my brother's birthday and he picked this spot for us to go. He booked a table ahead of time because he had been there before and knew it was quite busy. We got a text saying our table was ready when we walked in. We got to the host and they said it would be a few minutes. We waited about 10 which was only odd cause we got that text. Then we got seated in the tightest possible seating I have ever been sat in. There was 3 of us and it was a small table in the corner bordering the wall and the other side my chair was so close to another group's chair I couldn't put my jacket on the back of it (and it was a thinner jacket). We have all eaten in pubs before but the volume level was astoundingly loud. Even yelling to each other we couldn't really hear each other. So we just opted for mainly silence which was odd for a birthday dinner. My brother even at one point asked "tell me honestly what you think?" and we all said food was great, staff was nice, but the noise level was atrocious and the seating we sat at was comically small. There were some slightly bigger tables there, we just weren't lucky enough to have one of them. People were standing all around the bar and kept bumping into our third person who was sitting on the outside of the table so no seat really felt spacious. I liked the food and the staff was kind but I honestly don't know if I would go back for a dinner because we couldn't really enjoy each other's company. If you are looking just for a pub to drink at and hang then it would be fine but the sit down aspect has room for...
Read moreMy husband and I are visiting Boston for the first time this week for our anniversary. Per our tradition, we always have dinner in an Irish pub on the night of our anniversary, as we held our wedding reception in one. After doing a little research, we settled in Emmet's as the spot, and we were not disappointed.
The pub was very busy when we arrived. It's a small, intimate space, so it seems to fill up fast. However, the hostess was very nice and able to get us seated quickly. The bartender was also very attentive and got us drinks while we waited for our table. Despite being busy, the service was still solid.
I had the Rachel panini and a cup of the Guinness onion soup. The sandwich was very good but the soup was absolutely stellar. In fact, I enjoyed the soup so much I highly considered going back to get it for lunch today. The French fries were also the right amount of crispy. My husband had the Reuben and a cup of clam chowder. He enjoyed the sandwich, especially the fact that it was well proportioned (i.e. the right amounts of sauerkraut to dressing to beef). Again, the soup was the standout! We wrapped up with the salted caramel gelato with marshmallows and an Irish coffee. The gelato was one of the best desserts I've ever had, and it was a large portion. One is the perfect amount for two people (at least it was for us). The Irish coffee also lived up to the hype. It was smooth and tasty. I've been to many pubs where they're too heavy on the whiskey. This was just right.
Last but not least, the pub has great atmosphere. Having been to pubs across Ireland, I can confirm this is an authentic experience. It's cozy and intimate but lively and fun. They also play nice Irish music to help...
Read moreMy friend and I made a reservation for a pre-theater dinner here. Based on the photos it looked like a semi-upscale Irish pub..menu looked good, Beacon Hill address, what could go wrong?
Well, as it turns out a lot. The interior was packed, loud to the point of not being able to converse, dark and sticky - nothing like the photos. We were seated a tiny table in a space so cramped that I was physically touching the woman behind me. This woman and her companion actually left without ordering anything which we should have taken as a sign of things to come.
Our drink order was wrong and service was slow. An hour into our meal we had just finished our entrees and each had half-full drinks when the waitress informed us that our time was up and we had to leave the table. I get 90 minutes, but an hour?? At a minimum it would've been considerate for the waitress to inform us about this rule before selling us that second glass of wine.
So we moved over to a spot where we could stand and finish our drinks, where we couldn't help but notice several tables of diners who were seated when we arrived and seemed in no rush to leave.
The one bright spot is that food is a cut above average pub fare, our fried pickles were perfect and I seriously enjoyed the mushy peas, the name does not do...
