This is a very pretty spot right in the middle of Breckenridge. If you're taking the gondolas from the city center up to the ski areas, this is the beautiful spot of wilderness in between the neighborhoods that you will see looking down. Some things to know before you go: Google Maps will direct you into a neighborhood where there is no parking. In fact, there is no street parking throughout most of Breckenridge. So to visit this place, in the summertime, you can park at the Nordic Center for free. In the winter, you will need to pay for parking. The nature of this park is more like a green belt than a destination site. There is a wetland / beaver meadow, and numerous small trails throughout the preserve. We particularly enjoyed the wide variety and abundance of wildflowers in...

The wildlife preserve was just beautiful. The trail itself was easy with benches to sit and observe and take in your surroundings. Josie’s cabin was open and very interesting. This is listed as a loop trail but when we went the trail was closed about half way around. We had a choice to turn around or take a road next to the preserve and what turned between a housing area being built next to preserve. There is a small trail off this road for a more scenic route. we stayed on the road. We needed to get back to our car at the Nordic Center. This turned out to be about 2 + miles part of which was up Ski Hill Rd after we located ski hill road using our GPS. Suggestion just turn around if part of...

From the moment we decided to visit Breckenridge for our summer vacation the Cucumber Gulch Wildlife Preserve was on the top of our list of places to visit. It took us a while to find as the directions are not completely clear and the wifi in the area is hit and miss, but it was worth the trouble. Eventually we learned to take the Gondola to the top and work our way down and we are so glad we did. The views are incredible at every turn and the photo opportunities are endless. We were on a quest to see wildlife and were fortunate to happen upon a majestic Moose resting under a tree, a couple of Mule Deer and a Beaver! It was an incredible day and a highlight...

Excellent views! Great opportunity to view unique mountain wildlife. Fewer trails are open for hiking in the summer time than in the winter time. In the summer it is open for hiking and biking to all. In the winter a pass required from the Nordic Center and is open to use for snow shoeing and cross country skiing. All uses are a great opportunity to enjoy this environmentally sensitive wildlife preserve. Dogs are not allowed.

One of my favorite hikes in #Breckenridge. This is a mostly easy hike offers a variety of wildflowers and picturesque surroundings. There are several trails through the area. If you are lucky you can spot some wildlife. We saw deer and have seen moose in the past. If you would like to hike down the trail instead of up, you can get close to the trailhead using the gondola.

Lovely trail! We were lucky that it started snowing the day we decided to go on this trail. We had WONDERFUL scenic views of the gulch and trail. It's a fairly easy hike, and took us about 1.5hr (total roundtrip) to complete including plenty of stops for taking pictures and enjoying the snow (with a few snowball fights). :)
