I am concerned about the advice that I was provided by hotel staff and management at Mountain Thunder Lodge reservations. I am currently pregnant and was pregnant at the time we made our reservation to stay at Mountain Thunder Lodge. Mountain Thunder Lodge is located in Breckenridge at an altitude of approximately 9600ft. The CDC states that pregnant women who are unaccustomed to high altitutudes may become more become more short of breath and experience signs of acute mountain sickness (eg. headache, nausea).
As we drove up to Mountain Thunder Lodge I started becoming more short of breath and had a mild headache. I did not think I would be able to continue to ascend and make our drive up to the lodge. We immediately called the hotel and I explained my concerns about being pregnant and staying at high altitude. The hotel staff who spoke to us on the phone was very kind, but provided us inaccurate health information. She told me that it was safe to stay at high altitudes and that I should not be concerned. Although this woman had the best intentions I do not think it is safe for hotel staff to provide medical advice. As a health care professional, it is important that hotel staff take medical concerns of guests seriously and that medical advice not be given. In fact, a study published by High Altitude Medicine and Biology explains that “certain pre-existing conditions or risk factors of hypertension/preeclampsia and/or fetal growth restriction are contraindications for traveling to high altitude, especially after 20 weeks.” The CDC also suggests “pregnant women should avoid activities at high altitude unless trained for and accustomed to such activities; women unaccustomed to high altitudes may experience exaggerated breathlessness and palpitations.”
Although the intentions of the hotel staff were good, it is not safe to tell guests that they should not worry about their symptoms. I later spoke to the assistant manager of the hotel and asked given the extenuating circumstances of me feeling unwell at high altitudes if I could get a refund and they declined. They stated that they expected that I know that their hotel was located at a high altitude prior to making this booking.
Overall, I am disappointed with the experience, I understand that a strict no-refund policy is in place, but I do hope in the future that the lodge will be more cautious in providing medical advice which could potentially lead to...
Read moreStayed there 2 weeks ago. Beautiful place but... My 2 boys and I rented one of the townhomes. First night there, I woke during the night to freezing inside of the place. I knew I had set the temp on the thermostats correctly so I looked for blankets to add to my bed. No luck. After zero sleep and trying to stay warm I checked the thermostats and they said 62! I called the front desk and they sent a tech out to check the heaters. They found that someone prior to our arrival has left several windows cracked and the heaters couldn't get the place warm. He said he would let the front desk know. The front desk person then called me that morning to apologize and told me they would refund me a night's stay (we were there 6 days). I had to call the desk a couple other times for more coffee (they gave us 2 days worth), blankets, overhead light out in master, towels, book hot tub res, etc and was asked by the person answering about whether the heat was now working better. I said yes and that person said that for all trouble we had they would deduct a couple days Amenity Fees. I presumed on top of the Nights Stay credit I had already been promised. Upon check out I asked the girl at the front desk how I would get the credit for the night returned to me since we had booked and fully paid through a travel agent. She went around the corner to ask the manager (whom I never saw) and came back to tell me that it would go on the Debit Card I had given them for incidentals. After returning home, I checked my Bank Account. They credited me a whopping $40!! My travel agent has been trying to get the night credit they promised returned to me with no luck. $40!? It should also be noted that they floor heater in the master makes a horrible repeating knock all night long. I had to play sleep music to drown it out each night and still slept poorly.
We spent thousands of $$ on this trip that went to Breckenridge and the Mountain Thunder Lodge. I am shocked at the lack of following through with their promise. PS I didn't ask for a credit, they said they would provide one due to the nightmare of a first night we had. What a disappointment to receive $40, not impressed at all with your Customer Service and care of...
Read moreI am writing this review as we are checking out at 8:30am on Tuesday, July 2. We were very disappointed in our stay for our family reunion which had 20 people and we stayed 3 nights. ||Be aware there Is NO AC. They do provide 2 box fans for your room but for a 2-bedroom condo this was not useful. Our fridge was not working properly and we had to move all of our meat to the freezer to keep it safe. Also, we discovered the window valence in the main room was broken and one of the pieces was placed behind the sleeper couch and we had a broken slat in the shades. ||Also, we were not informed till we checked in on a piece a paper, not by the woman who checked us in that there is no “daily” housekeeping and for a fee you could have housekeeping even if it was just taking out your old towels and garbage. ||When I called downstairs they said they would send someone right up but took the very rude maintenance man 3 hours to come look at it. When he did get to our room he was very condescending and said the fridge must have been left open as his temperature gun was saying the fridge was in a safe zone but did say moving the meat to the freezer was good to do. ||Also, we came back to our room every night to discover our room was full of weed smell. We did let front desk know and they said there was nothing they could do if they were smoking outside of their rooms. Mind you, we were on the 3rd floor. ||We also asked Aubrey at the front desk if there was any kind of breakfast in the resort since there was a large room with tables and catering equipment setup and was told no I don’t think so but you probably don’t want to eat what we make and you are better off going into town to have breakfast. ||Also, we discovered that there is black mold|In the primary bathroom above the door frame that appeared to have been painted over. ||Upon checking out on 7/2, I explained to Sean of my concerns and he was very apologetic but said we should have called them to let them know of the weed smell we should have called the front desk and I said we we did. ||For what we paid for our stay, it was quite disappointing and we will never...
