I love coming here for Geshe Phende's classes. There is always something profound to learn. He is well known internationally as a great teacher.
The monastery has a variety of classes and workshops to interest a variety of people. I'm not a Buddhist, though I started my religious/spiritual studies with Buddhism many years ago, and now I run an ashram.
The monks travel between Atlanta(and other parts of the U.S.), and India, every other year, (or maybe it's now been changed to every two years.) They normally do a U.S. tour teaching about Tibetan culture, doing traditional Tibetan performances, conducting Dharma talks, and making sacred sand mandalas. Read moreThe best thing about this place is when you're learning meditation in the meditation room with the meditation teacher.
The people who go here are judgemental and look at you like you don't belong here, especially the lady that works in the bookstore
The lady that works in the bookstore is absolutely disgusting she can't possibly be a Buddhist
The male volunteers act more like they own the place rather than act like volunteers
The attendees are not social, kind, or friendly There is a spirit or energy of loneliness and judgement here, it's not untill you are actually in meditation that you feel like your in a Buddhist temple
Overall this place feels like any other public place where there are rude people
THE MEDITATION TEACHER IS THE ONLY GOOD THING...

It's a beautiful place in every sense of the word that promotes a realistic kindness, compassion and wisdom in the world. If it isn't your final spiritual destination, it can nourish you until you do find it. Its spiritual director and founding teacher is also a Ph.D. whose efforts are largely responsible for bringing His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Emory as Visiting Professor every year or so. Atlanta is the envy of many in the American and European Dharma world for what...
