EDIT: Dropped down to one star from two after my interaction with Chuze on the phone today. Canceled my membership, too. On the hunt for a new gym that doesn't lock you into a contract (and then drastically lower their standard of service).
Used to be a huge fan of Chuze. The price was good, the amenities excellent, the facilities were clean, and there were typically more than enough machines and weights to go around. The other gym patrons observed the rules (wiping down machines, putting equipment back after use, not dropping weights, using one machine at a time, avoiding phone use while on the floor, etc). Plus, the staff were pleasant and helpful.
While the last is still true, my opinion of Chuze has slipped greatly over the past three months. In a classic shady fitness center move, they've signed on far more people than they have the space for. This means that there are typically waits in excess of five minutes for machines, and 10+ minutes for the massage and tanning facilities. It's hard to justify the price when it takes an hour and a half to finish a workout that used to take an hour (yes, I have tracked this - I am the type to keep a workout log).
Furthermore, the facilities are nowhere near as clean as they used to be. I'm constantly finding used bandages, articles of clothing, wrappers, trash, and food/drink residue in the locker room. It's also worth mentioning that I've gotten two skin infections from the hot tub over the past two months. One required a four week course of antibiotics to clear up.
When I first started at Chuze, the staff would gently remind customers to wipe down the machines when they were finished - I don't think I've seen this happen at all over the past two months. I typically have to wipe down machines before and after use now, which wastes even more time. The juicers have found this facility and are present in force - expect to overhear plenty of swearing, grunting, and rude/sexist comments during your workout.
While initially hopeful this was just January bloat, we're now a week into February and if anything conditions have gotten worse. If you're considering Chuze, take a good hard look at the reviews and WHEN they were posted - the overall experience has become significantly worse since December 2017. Also, do yourself a favor and come in as often as you can on that 7 day free trial before committing to anything. I'm stuck paying $30/mo to spend 1/3 of my workout waiting in line for the next...
Read moreI have been going here since it opened. At first, I was very impressed with the staff, the level of cleanliness and the overall respectful and inclusive atmosphere. It was a godsend while I took care of my mom who has dementia. However, lately I have found myself wondering if it is time to move on. The gym is overcrowded. There is a bunch of high school kids that workout together in packs of five that tend to disregard gym etiquette. In a normal, non-pandemic situation, this would not bother me, but now it is disconcerting. Even worse, there is a large majority of people ignoring the mask mandate required by the city and county of Broomfield. I get how uncomfortable wearing a mask is, especially when working out. I teach yoga and I have to wear a mask. By the time I am finished teaching my voice is cracking. However, there is science to back the efficacy of wearing a mask in public buildings, especially when air is being expressed more intensely during strenuous activity like working out.
I feel sorry for the staff and have seen a high turnover rate since the onset of this pandemic. That wasn't the case pre-pandemic, which tells me that Chuze had good management. I cannot imagine how difficult your staffs' job is now and the risk they are taking so us folks can get a good workout. However, management needs to consider the safety of all those involved, especially their staff. Yesterday, while working out I witnessed a masked man pause and look around at all the unmasked people working out in the weight lifting area. It was over crowded and for some reason there were more packs of high school kids than normal. After looking, he did a 180 and left. I am wondering if this is more normal than not? By not implementing the mask mandate, are you driving away the more considerate and respectful members? I know I left as soon as the crowds reached a tipping point and my space was being compromised by an unmasked individual.
I am going to keep giving this gym a try...but I have purchased a membership at another gym where the mask mandate is implemented,...
Read moreWould not recommend Chuze fitness to anyone. The staff is not friendly or welcoming. They deceive their customers and use false advertisement. Firstly, when I initially signed up to use their gym services, they had no documents stating that when I would cancel that I would be charged an annual feel of $50.00. If I had known that I would be getting $50.00 taken out of my account for an annual feel, then I would never had signed up to begin with. However, they did state that I would get charged a cancellation fee of $50.00 while being in the 12 month term. But when I called and talked to their manager, she said that I would not get charged for that but that I would get charged for a $50.00 annual fee. I let her know that this should not only be stated in the same email she sent me with the cancellation requirements, but also in the initial sign up papers. she stated they were, but I did not see any when I closely read the requirements before signing up. This is completely unprofessional. Especially to not have that in the cancellation requirements email. It is as if they are hiding something to get extra money in their pockets. The manager was in no way nice to me, and was in no way helpful. I did not feel like I was being well respected as a customer using their services. Furthermore, they are also a racist company. I am part Indian and I felt like I was not being treated fairly. In regards to not only the staff, but mainly by the manager. I was for sure being discriminated against when she informed me of their cancellation policy that they did not make clear in their paperwork. This is false advertising and deceiving. It hiding things under the table. They intentionally say nothing about the annual fee to charge their customers extra. this is in no way respectful. I will never be using their services again. This is a very shady, unprofessional company ran by individuals who are greedy, racist and use false advertisement to deceive...
