When it comes to commercial gyms that have a little bit of everything, Crunch Fitness is probably the best in the Burbank/Glendale/NoHo. I regret so badly being convinced to leave here to try Equinox. I really don't have anything bad to say about Crunch.
Over the past few years (almost a decade) I've been a member of 24 Hour Fitness in Burbank and Glendale, Equinox Glendale, Burbank Athletic Club, Media Center Health Club, and Crunch Fitness Burbank.
The Gym: At less 1/3 the price of Equinox Glendale, you practically have everything they have minus the scented towels. They have a large free weight area. During peak hours you might have to wait a little bit but in my experience not nearly as much as other commercial gyms. Before I left there were 2 squat racks, a deadlift area with a landmine, 3 flat benches for barbell bench press, and 1 of each decline and incline bench for your barbell needs. Other than 24 Hour Fitness in Burbank, that is a good amount of barbell stuff for a commercial gym. This is also probably the only commercial gym I know of that has a turf and a sled to push. I've only seen this at other speciality gyms. There are also more machines here than most of the gyms I've listed above and the layout is just overall more open better than most I've listed above.
The Amenities: There is ample parking here. They have nice showers with body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. There is a sauna in the guy's locker room (I haven't been in the women's one but I assume there is one as well). Their trainers have been really friendly and no one seemed overly aggressive to try to make their sales pitch. They will help out with form stuff if just ask.
The bottom line: If you are starting to workout and you want a good commercial gym (not a speciality one for crossfit, powerlifting, mma, or barre), this is the best I've found in the Burbank/Glendale area. It has a little bit of everything you need for whichever fitness goal you want. There is also no contract clause locking you in for any specific amount of time. If your workout goals change and you want to join a different gym, they even prefer email. I don't see any reason not to...
Read moreI love this location. If you're looking for a clean and friendly environment, this place is perfect for you. It has everything you need in a gym, and the staff at the location is nice. The issue I had was with customer service via email, which was pretty horrible, to say the least.
I became a member because this location is considered a 'corporate' version of the franchise, and I was under the impression that they cater to the needs of those who travel frequently for work or other related reasons.
I was away for 9 months and had a terrible experience attempting to keep my membership frozen while I was out of the country. Apparently, there are limitations on how long you can keep your account frozen, even though there's a cost to keep a freeze in place, and the yearly subscription costs are still debited on its regularly due schedule.
I requested two back-to-back 3-month freezes and forgot to email prior to the end of my freeze period, which resulted in a charge for a normal monthly fee. I had no issues with the charge since I did forget to email the location. When I requested a freeze again, I was told that they couldn't freeze the account anymore since there was no activity on it. I emailed Heather and the location's main email and asked if the service charge that hit my account after the 6-month period would be considered activity. They went silent after that point, even after emailing several times.
It's quite disappointing to say the least, but this location is still a great option if you're staying permanently in the area. If you're a working professional that travels frequently, I would highly suggest searching for other options because this franchise doesn't offer acceptable email customer service and is limited in how long you can keep your...
Read moreAfter being a loyal member at this specific Crunch location for eight years, I have decided to cancel my membership due to an incredibly disappointing experience. Recently, I reached out to the general manager to express my valid concerns about the consistent annual increases to my monthly rate--$10 more each year, despite my long-standing loyalty. Instead of addressing my concerns professionally, the manager responded in a hostile, disrespectful, and condescending manner, making it clear that my loyalty meant nothing to them and that the rate would remain unchanged.
My monthly rate had risen to $70, only for me to discover that new members were being offered prices as low as $30 to $50 a month. Is this how you treat a customer who has been loyal to your establishment for years? Rather than rewarding long-term members, it seems this location is more interested in attracting new members while disregarding the ones who have supported them over time.
During our conversation, the manager repeatedly cut me off, was confrontational, and showed a complete lack of customer service skills. This location desperately needs a manager who can handle customer concerns with professionalism and respect, rather than becoming defensive and hostile.
I will be reaching out to the regional manager at Crunch headquarters to file a complaint against this location and specifically against this manager. Take your business to an establishment that actually values loyalty instead of treating you like garbage. Believe the low reviews--they're there...
