Big League Dreams in Manteca California is a Ball Game Lovers place to visit. There is much in the way of reviews but very little about the facility. We were there over the 29th of Feb and the 1st of March 2020. The facility is a vast expanse of 6 fields spread over several acres. Each field is themed after a famous MLB field in America. We had the experience of playing Fenway Park, Wrigley Field and the long gone Polo Grounds of New York. Here is what is not explained in any of the info available. Each field has the equivelent of "Box Seating" inside the vast snack bar overlooking home plate. These are tables against windows. Below is real stadium styled seating, not bleachers. There is plenty of room for the type of tournament style play that occurs at the facility. Each team is given a real concrete in ground dug out with water jugs. These are maintained by grounds staff however most youth teams are disciplined to bring their own water bottles. The fields are all Astro-Turf. Outfield is grass. There is no dirt save for beyond the foul lines in the outfield and the warm up tracks under the faux grandstands in the far backs of each field. With the Astro-Turf, Turf shoes are recommended and tennis shoes are ok to wear. Regular rubber cleats are allowed. Hard screw in plastic or metal cleats are Not allowed. There are no dedicated bullpens to warm up pitchers during games. There is practice zones on nearby lawns or beyond the cones Home Run zones on each field. There is an indoor soccer Arena on the premises. Also a full automatic batting cage in the central plaza. For younger children there is a shaded playground over a large rubberized surface. Each snack bar is identical to the other making it easy to confuse where you are after a series of games. Wait times were not particularly long however rumor has it they can be up to 20 minutes if there is an exceptionally large group of games happening. Costs for food are average. Still expensive but not unreasonable. Parking is free, however heed warnings that thieves do roam the area looking for out of towners. Break ins are reported to be common. Use common sense and leave suitcases at the hotel and leave your vehicle empty. We noticed no issue over our weekend there. Overall the facility provides a lazer focused Major League experience for young athletes in a theme that even adults can get into. I believe adult leagues also play there. Venue Soft Ball...
Read moreBeen coming to Manteca's Big League Dreams since it's opening day over ten years ago. It USED to be Manteca's and surrounding areas crown jewel sporting complex, but it seems that is not the priority anymore. BLD is a multi-million dollar corporation and it seems they have chosen profit over customers. For the prices they charge for entrance fees to drink and food, registration for league and tournaments, revenue is not an issue. Teams come from all over the state and out of state to play in one of the replica stadiums. There is league play every week, and baseball, softball or soccer tournaments every weekend of the year! So attendance is not a question. Just attending a softball tournament this past weekend,it was sad to see the current shape of the BLD from it's former glory days. From the worn out and tattered field turfs, to the delipalated outfield walls, that TOXIC rubber smell of the infield turf baking in the California summer heat that you can smell from the bleachers so I don't know how the players can handle it! Staff NOT watering the infield in-between games to keep that smell down, I would imagine that would be BLD's top priority...PLAYER SAFTEY! As for the indoor soccer complex on the BLD site, it is way too HOT indoors while games are being played all day from kids to adults! Put in a AC for the building... Just because staff keeps some of the sliding doors open to try and keep the air circulating, that does not count as AC!! It feels like a sauna in there during the summer! It ruins the spectator and player experience. I would suggest installing solar panels on the rooftops of the BLD's complex and add covered parking structures also with solar panels to help offset the energy costs..what company does not want to go...
Read moreExpect to pay $5 at the entrance (used to be $3 about a year ago) but now you get nothing in return. They always gave out a coin worth $1 before which meant you can use towards food or a beverage when coming to watch baseball or soccer but that's gone because "they now take card".
They don't care if you go there multiple times a week, they don't care that you're paying team and player fees to play. They could of continued giving the coins or some incentive to the people who play or pay in cash but they just want your money. Their prices go up and their service and overall environment goes down. The indoor soccer facility is old and run down, and their soccer balls are awful, seriously any $10 ball at Walmart is better quality. The one decent thing they had going for them with those coins is gone. I guess they might as well take out the restaurants next, most people would go there to use the coins as a discount for food and beverage and end up spending money but no reason to step foot in there anymore.
To justify the price increase maybe you should update your soccer facilities and the poor equipment used in there, open the playground that's been closed for years and have more incentives for those people who are there weekly and multiple times per week paying to keep your...
