I live just outside the city on a country road, so I would have to pay $20/year (I’m pretty sure of this amount) to check out books.. but I love going to this library! I still go to buy magazines! 10/$1!!! I donate my old ones and buy some more. Most of the time they have a very generous stock of cross stitching magazines. I love to add to my library! Thank you Carthage, for helping my transition from Joplin an easy one. 😃 Joplin Public Library charges $.50/magazine, but usually has a wider variety (this though is hit or miss, some days they have nothing for sale.)
Now being almost one year into the pandemic, I am still able to donate magazines I don’t want thru their book drop off area outside. That’s such a godsend! I have accumulated so many subscriptions that I don’t enjoy. I hope someone else likes Variety or Bloomberg Businessweek.
Comparatively, I recently visited JPL to print out some documents and they took away their section to buy donated items. ☹️ what a bummer!...
Read moreThis might just be the worst library I have ever been too. The staff is nice the building is pretty and that is the only good thing about this place. I live outside of the city limits so paid $20 for my family of 5 for the year. No bad. But then you are on probation for 30 days and you can only check out two things. That is really upsetting as a homeschooling family but ok 30 day we will make do. I have never been in a more confusing library. The movies didn't really seem to be sorted by genre, the kids and adults were together. I couldn't figure out the books. It was a big building full of nothing, there was hardly anything good. And there was no self check out.
Update just more bad news. Carthage public library has no way for you to pay your fines online! What a joke! Their wed site is...
Read moreThis was so humiliating! I went in to use the computer and she tells me it's $1 if I didn't have a library card. So, I asked to apply for one and she tells me to fill out an application so I did. Then, she says I have a fine from 2013. I asked what was the fine and she tells me it's $24.60. I asked what it was for and she can't tell me because her system doesn't say. She brings all the staff and they all say the same thing and an hour later everyone is getting aggressive and loud. Then she tells me if I don't pay her those $24.60 I can't visit the library again. I also noted she looks just like me so I wonder if she's using my identity and...
