Art By Shalimar Studio & Gallery — Attraction in Cary

Shalimar is one of the most talented artists of our time. Her work is inspired, genuine, evokes a variety of emotions and her skillset is broad. She is entirely self-taught, and she literally paints a piece of herself in her work. She has a background as an ICU nurse, and used to work codes at Rex hospital in Raleigh. She has given so much of herself as a nurse and now she continues to give in the form of art and her community collabs.

She did a commission for my office and the outcome was even more incredible than anything I could have imagined. Feel free to stop by my office to take a look. She has this unusual ability called synesthesia where she can paint sounds—it is phenomenal and incredibly rare.

We have attended her art lessons as well and those have been eye-opening and very valuable. She puts so much thought into each stroke it is truly amazing to witness. We are forever fans...

I’ve followed Shalimar for years in social media after discovering her work when I lived in Cary, NC. I knew I wanted to own one of her pieces, but wanted to be sure it was something meaningful for my family. This year, I finally had an idea for a meaningful piece that I knew would look excellent painted by Shalimar given her use of textures. I am overjoyed that I finally own a piece of her art, and love knowing that the large “Healing Bloom” will hang on our walls forever. The smaller painting is modeled after a real peony that gave us a little God-wink when we needed it most. It is going to a family member, and we can’t wait to surprise them! I love Shal’s work. The emotion conveyed in her pieces is sublime. Find one of her pieces you connect with and ask about her process and state of mind. More than likely, you’ll understand why you connected with the piece. That conversation will turn a gorgeous piece of art into something priceless. That was our exact experience when my wife and I were on vacation and visited her gallery. We purchased one of Shal’s larger pieces in that collection and Shal shipped it to us when her show was over. It’s now our favorite piece of artwork in our house.
