Having lived in Raleigh for decades, I've always been attuned to the discussions about the best cities to live and work in the United States, and Cary has frequently been mentioned in such conversations. Initially perceived as a mere suburb with Raleigh at its heart, Cary has gradually shed that image, morphing into something more akin to a city, while its downtown retains the charm of a small town. Despite the cycle of old businesses fading away and new, slightly larger commercial buildings taking their place, a true sense of prosperity seemed elusive. It wasn't until the revitalization of Downtown Cary Park and the addition of new apartment complexes that perceptions began to shift. Yet, many restaurants and landmarks like the government office buildings, Cary Elementary School, Cary Arts Center, and The Cary Theater have maintained their original character. The latter, which nearly succumbed to the rise of digital movies and the impact of the pandemic, stands as a testament to the town's resilience. I don't often find myself wandering downtown unless my previous photographic works have been superseded by new images, prompting me to capture fresh perspectives through my lens. On days when cooking feels like a chore, I find solace in the familiar comfort of takeout from TAIPEI 101. However, the nights still carry a tinge of concern, with the occasional recklessness on Academy Street and the disruptive rumble of trucks laden with oversized speakers testing the limits of tranquility. There was a fountain and a park for kids which is now under construction. Cary library and Art Center is the places to watch.
