Subject: Urgent Complaint: Discriminatory Treatment at Train Boarding
Dear Amtrak Cary Customer Relations Team,
I am writing to report a deeply concerning incident I witnessed at the Amtrak station today on October 26,2025 traveling from Cary, NC to Washington DC, Train number 40 and gate/track B/2.I arrived around 8:20am though the train was originally scheduled for 7:30 a.m. While waiting to board at 8:30am I observed a young African-American woman with an infant in a stroller and several bags. She was first in line, yet when the attendant began boarding passengers, he skipped over her and allowed all other passengers none of whom were African-American to board ahead of her. Several of us in line noticed this and tried to bring it to the attendant’s attention, pointing out that she had a baby and was next to board. Despite this, he ignored the comments and made her wait until last. The attendant was the only staff member present at the ticket sign-in area and was a white male.
This behavior was distressing to witness and felt discriminatory. Every passenger who purchases a ticket deserves to be treated with respect and fairness, regardless of race or background. I am requesting that this matter be investigated promptly and that appropriate action be taken to ensure such treatment does not happen again. Thank you for your attention to this...
Read moreI go and wait in line for my train, the ignorant lady comes up to me and tells me I can't bring a picture I painted on the train and that they do not allow art on the train and offered to buy another seat just for my picture but she refused and said it was at the conductor discretion. So I get the train and the lady just yells, you can't come on this train. With your art and I beg because I have little money and all I had left spent on a train ticket to be reunited with my two babies 1 and 2. She started to laugh and said she don't care. And smiled at the ticket lady and laughed and shut the door in my face a d then kicked off two 15 year old kids for no reason and she is laughing and allowing a passenger who had double the baggage and laughed her on. She said come on sister. I guess I'm not ok enough to be someone sister. So now my family has to travel 3 hours to get me and I have to wait in the rain. I hope the government...
Read moreI typically have a great experience at this location; however, on this particular day, the security officer patrolling the parking lot acted inappropriately toward customers waiting for their rides. As customers were approaching their vehicles, he repeatedly cut them off by physically placing his hands in front of them including me, struck the trunk or side of their cars, and aggressively shouted at drivers to leave and move to the parking lot.
There are no posted signs indicating that pick-ups must occur in designated areas, so it’s understandable that people wait by the benches for their rides. His behavior was rude, unprofessional, and disrespectful. I believe this matter should be addressed appropriately by his supervisor to prevent similar incidents in the future as a fight could have easily ensued with the wrong person who won’t tolerate...
