I went here 3 times with my son on 3 different occasions. As a mother of a 6 year old boy, I was astounded at how dangerous this entire park was, and especially the playground! Everyone knows children cannot read until 5ish years old, but they can climb well before that. And even when they CAN read, they don't look around for signs on what to do. I cannot imagine having two children or more to look after because I could barely keep my eyes on my 1 boy because of the way this playground is designed with lots of areas for your kid to disappear quickly. I actually had to climb up into the wooden birds to look for my friend's kid only to find a toddler crying so hard stuck up in the top, and none of the kids inside knew what to do and couldn't help her down. Lucky I am a petite woman and could fit up in there and save her. Her parents had no idea she was crying inside when I brought her out! I can't believe the design of this playground was approved in any sort of way. There are literally jagged, sharp stones ALL over the playground and one misstep would send you falling onto sharp edges. Like HOW was this approved? It seems like the entire team of everyone involved with making this park- not one person has children and knows how it goes with kids? You can't always catch them when they are falling, you can't stop them from running from you and climbing on something. Especially with more than one child. I REALLY hope no one gets seriously injured here, though it seems highly likely!!! All the people I was there with were astounded by how DANGEROUS this park was. We noticed danger at every turn, were actually mad about it. Also, the kids go crazy there because it is packed with people and very high energy. Once they go up inside the wooden birds, you seriously cannot see them. I didn't know where my son was for a good while because he was just inside the bird. What a worry-inducing experience here! I'm shocked the creators could be this careless. Should be closed immediately. And I'm not even a helicopter parent, I'm pretty relaxed when it comes to play, but this place is absolutely...
Read moreThis was such a Beautiful Park! It was about a hour and half from me but definitely worth the drive . We visited during December when the Christmas lights were put up downtown and the park area . I came to take maternity pictures and they turned out amazing . The moment you drive into the downtown area , it’s a light show ! You have small local restaurants to dine in and stores . Plenty of people walking around very busy and diverse but not to friendly . The first thing you notice is all the beautiful different Christmas trees decorated on the sidewalk. As far as parking there is public parking for the park area but it does get full quickly and you have to park near the library area . Once you enter the park , it’s hard to get a few pictures because of the crowd of people waiting to take there pictures as well , but definitely worth it . The kids will absolutely love coming here , I recommend coming during the day but also at night . There is a park area , we’re kids can play around and also a place to get food and eat outside and inside . Bathrooms are available near the theater area were they do local music bands and shows . They have a really cool light up bridge you can walk on and take good pictures on . Also if you’re looking to spend time at the park they also have free ice skating for the children , on a first come first serve kind of thing . They also have an area were they have a fire pit going with music and drinks . You have to take pictures under the Christmas tree they have in the center of the park it’s huge ! The park is pretty big , so definitely have walking shoes . Definitely would recommend coming here to see...
Read moreTruth is the park is beautiful! The architecture and design is whimsical throughout. The holiday decor makes it even more special. There are plenty of seating areas where you can enjoy the water features & peacefulness of the area. The dedicated dog area gets a lot of attention. The play area was enjoyed by children and adults alike. They have a seasonal ice rink and skate rental…very pretty at night.
The downside - a soda will cost you $6 and they don’t offer you a cup with ice! I was completely turned off by this! Not everyone likes drinking from a can. Fix it!
There is a small fire fit by the main bar area that should be much bigger. At best 22 people can fit around it. Many waited for a chance to enjoy the fire. However, as you can imagine a seat never became available. To keep warm, we kept walking. It would have been nice to see a mirrored fire pit both sides of the bar to allow space for more people to sit! I’m sure a man conceptualized having one for pit by a bar that serves beer lol! Oh well…
Strike 2: You can only get hot beverages from the cafe close to the fountain. The bar should also be able to serve hot beverages. A simple hot chocolate would not be hard to serve at a bar.
Strike 3: unless I missed it - parking will be hard to find on popular days where tons might be flocking to the park.
Overall, I hope all of Wake county will go and enjoy this 69 million dollar park in...
