I would like to highlight my recent experience with Cary Parks and Recreation’s Specialized Programs. I encountered unprofessional and dismissive communication from staff member Laura Morton regarding my son’s participation in the basketball program. She implied that he wasn't a "good fit" due to the coach's "high expectations"—a statement I found discriminatory and completely inappropriate in a program that’s supposed to be inclusive and supportive of all children. Note she had not seen him, knew nothing of his ability, etc.
This kind of language reflects a gross lack of understanding and professionalism, especially when working with diverse participants and their families. I expected better communication, refined leadership skills, and a willingness to work constructively—not to be met with exclusionary comments.
Families deserve respect and thoughtful engagement, not judgments about their child's potential based on arbitrary standards. I sincerely hope the department takes this seriously and strives to ensure all children are welcomed and supported in...
