Seminole County Public Library - Jean Rhein Central Branch — Attraction in Casselberry

Disappointingly out of touch. This is the location closest to my home, so I come here often. Recently, I dropped by to pick up a few books, and noticed the lack of pride representation during this month. (minus a rainbow-colored decoration here or there)

I found it strange, as I was certain libraries did more events for their community as a whole, but shrugged it off. Until, come a few days ago, my child and their friend went to another location in Orange County and absolutely gushed about their entire pride display. I find it very concerning that other libraries are encouraging supporting their community while my home library does not. As a proud parent of an LGBTQ+ child, it infuriates me that if they come back to our home library, they’ll feel disappointed or uncomfortable, and I’m sure many others feel the same way. I am posting on behalf of my sweet cousin. This library has been a safe place for her for so many years. Today she worked up the courage to go by herself hoping to have some alone time to read her book in peace. She was sitting by herself on the floor away from people not bothering anyone. She has special needs and cannot be around people, so she found a nice spot in an isle away from everyone. Everything was okay for about an hour, and she was enjoying her time. She was then rudely interrupted by a bald white lady. This woman came up to my cousin and told her that she is not allowed to sit on the floor and that she needs to move over to a table. I cannot believe a library employee went out of their way to reprimand a girl sitting quietly by herself simply reading a book. My cousin left in tears and unfortunately does not feel like she can go back to this library that has been a safe...

This is a great library! The staff is always so friendly and helpful. They offer a huge selection of reading materials as well as electronic resources. You can also visit their online site to browse materials and even request a hold on items so you can pick them up! My family and I frequent there ALOT, especially my son loves it there because of the fun events they have! Over the summer, we will be attending quite a few nice events and activities like the reading club, chess club and Lego builders club. This library also offers movie night and you can come in your pajamas!! Make sure to pick up the calendar as they have a lot available for adults too. Knitting, arts and crafts, ect... Visiting the library often has helped my son enjoy reading more than he did before. He has been going to the library with me ever since he was 2-3 years old and now he is 7!!
