The saddest experience I have ever had in 30 years of traveling in the U. S., Europe, Southeast Asia and South America in both 5 star hotels and inexpensive local inns.
Wifi does not work in several of the rooms. While the inn owner knows this, she didn't tell me prior to me booking an entire week over Christmas.
When I asked her about the wifi not working, she said that it doesn't work in The Girls Room (where I was - I had been told that it was the only room available. It is the most expensive room and every night that I was there several other rooms in the inn were vacant.)
While wifi may not seem like a deal breaker, because I have Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, listening to meditations and PTSD brain retraining recordings and Skyping with my therapist are crucial to my healing and to my attempts to be calm and to not fall back into debilitating depression.
The morning that I discussed the wifi situation with her, she told me that I would just have to use the wifi while sitting in the public dining room - not exactly possible while meditating, doing brain retraining or Skyping with my therapist. And, at $175 per day, the wifi should work.
We sent men to the moon in 1969. Technology can make wifi work throughout any building, if someone puts in the effort. However, the inn owner was unconcerned, it seemed.
The chain of events that followed was bizarre and a mystery to me. The end result was that she told me to leave and even called her female police officer friend, who I had seen visiting her the previous two days, to escort me and my service dog out of the inn. This drama was bizarre, traumatic and never explained. Maybe she wanted someone else to have my room. I don't know.
I went to Cedar Key and to this inn to rest after a long illness and after almost dying at UF Shands Hospital just a few weeks prior.
Being police escorted out of the Cedar Key B & B with no logical explanation was extremely damaging to my mental stability and to my heart.
Quaint and charming is the outward appearance of this inn, but, you won't find authentic kindness and grace here. It seems that God has vacated the premises. Maybe old, unhappy ghosts are still lurking around, along with the cockroaches that I found crawling around my...
Read moreAMAZING!!!!!! We were looking for a little weekend getaway, and found this gem.
This was our first trip to Cedar Key, and it will not be our last. The residents of Cedar Key are some of the nicest people I've met anywhere. Not just a few of them, but every person we encountered.
Now the B&B: being from Florida, we know the risks of deciding to vacation anywhere near the coast during hurricane season. And of course, Hurricane/Tropical Storm Elsa decides to make a beeline to Cedar Key just a couple of days before our vacation. The day after the storm, we received a call from the B&B that a limb had crashed down and snapped the power line and they had no power and we could cancel our reservation with no penalty if we wanted to. But, they had been working with electricians, inspectors and the power company and should have power by the day of our stay. Long story short, everyone busted their tails and power was restored in time. An added note: the grounds were immaculate. The staff of the B&B as well as neighbors and friends from church all pitched in and you couldn't tell Elsa had ever been there.
Our room was beautifully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. It was like we had traveled back in time. View the images on their website, and you'll get the idea. The breakfast was so delicious, and the presentation was more than expected. (Special shout out to the biscuits and gravy casserole....OMG!!!) The staff were extremely attentive and friendly. Not just during breakfast, but with suggestions about things to do on the island. As previously mentioned, the grounds were immaculate. The old oak trees, the plants, and the "porch" swing under one of the oak limbs was such a nice, relaxing spot.
Borrow a bike or rent a golf cart per their suggestion, you won't regret it. Driving your car and finding parking in the afternoon and evenings is a challenge. The B&B is only minutes away from everything by golf cart. And there are some amazing restaurants the staff can recommend as well.
We will definitely be back. I've told all my family and friends about this...
Read moreGreetings fellow travelers. I've stayed at many B&B's and most were just as you'd imagine. A quaint, cozy room. A homemade breakfast to enjoy with others staying at the inn. Cedar Key B&B had all of that and much, much more! We booked the room called Summer Kitchen which is right off the back porch. It was perfect for a long weekend with my wife. Checking in was simple just like our whole stay there. Nothing to worry about because Alice and her staff would handle it all with a smile. We had a small hiccup in our stay which they handled with ease. The mini-split in our room stopped working, so no heat or A/C this was on our first night. The next morning we informed Alcie of the issue and she assured us they would fix it right away, which, they tried to do. We went about our day after breakfast and told them we'd be on our boat most of the day. Alice called us midday and told us she has moved us to the Honeymoon room due to extensive cleaning of the ac unit was needed which would take time. When we returned from a nice day on the water our overnight bags and toiletries had been moved (which they asked permission to do). They apologized for the inconvenience which there wasn't, and our new room was bigger too. We absolutely love Cedar Key. We usually get an airB&B but with no kids this was so nice. We always rent a golf cart when on Cedar Key, and Alice has a couple to rent. We got one and cruised around hitting the shops and restaurants. Sunday it rained off and on but on the back porch was a rack of umbrellas to choose from. Breakfast was always different, eggs, yogurt, crepes all from the kitchen which Alice always says feel free to go in and grab what you need. It honestly felt like home away from home. Baked goods sitting out throughout the day to grab and go. Assorted teas and coffee always available. A beautifully manicured garden also. The property, the rooms, the food and the staff made you just feel...
