At only $3 a person what a wonderful way to spend an afternoon after lunch. Cedar Key has much in the way of Civil War history. John Muir traveled to Cedar Key on his thousand mile walk. One of the locals made some incredible models of ships, fishing boats, sponge boats, the railroad through Cedar Key and the lighthouse. Cedar pencils and whisk brooms were huge industries in Cedar Key. The Eagle Pencil Cedar Mill and Eberhard Fabor pencil mill and the Standard Manufacturing whisk broom company were once large producers of manufacturing products. We will have to visit the Historical Society again. For a small place like Cedar Key they sure have lots of interesting history. The docent was knowledgeable and very helpful. Read moreThis is a small (2 buildings) museum of the history of Cedar Key and surrounding area. I give it 4 stars only because many of the displays and citations need to be revamped. Many are faded or are in need of editing. The docent was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. When she wasn't sure of a couple questions we asked she took some time, made a phone call and got back to us while we perused the displays. I did enjoy my visit! My wife and I are museum geeks and we like to read everything.

Our time here was educational as the area progressed and changed over time to what it is today.
