I came to this salon on my BIRTHDAY and received poor service which ruined my plans for the ENTIRE DAY. The salon states that it is a learning salon but doesn’t indicate which stylist are “in training “. Long story short I went in wanting my ends clipped and hair straightened. I scheduled my consultation at 1 pm and was told by the woman performing the consultation that I needed a treatment, shampoo, and trim. The consultation stylist didn’t have availability so I was willing to come back another day if need be. She then told me another stylist was available to do my hair that day. She insisted that it would take 3 hours MAX. I rearranged my plans for my birthday to come back at 4pm to get my hair done. Came back at 4PM and the new stylist washed, conditioned, and put the treatment on my hair. Once I sat in her chair with soaking wet hair, she grabbed a small comb (I have 4c hair) and combed from the scalp to the ends of the nape of my neck then proceeded to CUT MY HAIR WET. I asked her about the technique “Is there a difference between cutting the hair when wet versus dry?” and she mentioned it was personal preference. NEVER IN MY LIFE has a stylist tried to cut my hair when wet.Once she saw it wasn’t working she proceeded to “blow out” my entire head. After that she goes back to the nape area, can’t get the comb through the hair smoothly and takes out a flat iron and proceeds to “straighten” my hair. That is NOT good technique! Then she combs the hair that she pressed tangled (she did not detangle my hair at All which is shocking for a natural hair salon). So because she did not have the heat up on the dryer high enough my hair was not straight enough to Comb through (which is easy if you know what you are doing) she decides that the hair at the nape of my neck still has bad ends and proceeds to cut the SAME area she just clipped! At that point I calmly suggested she try blowing the hair out again to get it straighter and she didn’t listen. She then asked a clearly more experienced stylist for help (which she should have done from the beginning since she didn’t know what she was doing). The new stylist pointed out the heat on her dryer wasn’t high enough and she was using the wrong flat iron. So now 2 years of growing my hair ON MY OWN from a brush cut went down the drain. So the inexperienced stylist tries AGAIN and started being frustrated and couldnt effectively use her blow dryer. At that point I contacted my husband and he was outside in 5 min. I told the girl I was done and ready to go. At this point I was there for going on 3 hours and 30 minutes. A different experienced stylist came over and told me I couldn’t leave the salon with my hair in that state. She came over turnt the heat up on the dryer and IMMEDIATELY my hair began to do what it is supposed to do. She then took out scissors and began to trim as well. At this point I don’t even know if my hair is even, if the ends that were truly dead have been cut or what. I just know the back of my neck is NOT RIGHT. The next day the owner called and tried to make things better. I gave fair feedback but still received the runaround from the owner in trying to schedule the redo since she would not give me a well earned refund. Very disappointed I had to write...

I got my hair braided here a while back and I was satisfied with the service. I felt the price was fair and the results were lovely.
I decided to come back to get instant locs done with no added hair for $300 and placed a deposit down for $150. After more thought I didn't feel like the style was right for me, so 3 days before my appointment I decided to cancel. I thought I was going to get my deposit back or at least a part of it. Nope. All $150 was kept for doing nothing.
When I was canceling she did say she mentioned that there was no deposit refund during the consultation. She could have said that. Honestly I don't remember since the consultation happened a few weeks back. It would have been nice to see this in writing somewhere on their website or Vagaro account either way. I did read the special instructions and cancellation policy a few times and didn't see that anywhere.
On top of that paying through Varago was a pain with a credit card. So I took off half a day of work to bring my stylist that deposit in cash. It was a 3 hour trip to get there and back through Charlotte traffic starting on the opposite side of town.
I can't say anything about the dreadlock service since I didn't it done.
I gave the rating I did because no portion of the deposit was refunded and it makes no sense that this is even a policy. I'd understand this if I was a no-show or I canceled a day before the appointment. From my perspective I gave the stylist more than enough time to fill in that spot. Again, I canceled 3 days in advance. Consultations are free too so I'm not really sure why the deposit was kept.
From my perspective this comes off like a dirty sales tactic. It's like the deposit is withheld to play hardball with clients to mostly guarantee that services will be rendered. Because who wants to lose money? But in the end it doesn't matter because they can get paid for doing absolutely nothing.
I never had this happen before and it won't become a habit. I have no desire to come...
Read moreI have been following this salon for quite sometime and was impressed with their work. So when I decided to get sisterlocks I knew they were the one. I was completely happy with everything from the consultation to the install. My only complaint is the process of a "retired" loctician installing only and choosing a loctician within the salon to maintain your locs. From my experience that is not a good practice. B/c it put me, the client in a very uncomfortable and unfortunate position. I did not like expertise of the person I was assigned therefore I had to find another loctician accepting transfer clients, which was quite difficult b/c many do not accept transfer clients and I understand why. But, just as I had the option to choose and meet (through consultation) the person I wanted to install my locs the same option should be given to who is chosen to maintain my locs. I wish I had known more about loc maintenance before I agreed to one person installing and another person maintaining. B/c I would have never agreed to that kind of arrangement. B/c you build a relationship during an install, one you hope to continue in the maintenance and growth of your locs. Thankfully all is well now and I am real happy w/my new loctician and locs.
In response to Lucky You reply: Had management responded to text as they had reviews you would have known. But as I stated in the review had "I" known more I would have never been in that position b/c I personally do not like to go from "chair to chair" or "stylist to stylist" within the same salon. Therefore placing me with another loctician within your salon was not an option. My review was to help those super excited (as I was) to get sisterlocs that may not know information that will hinder their wonderful journey of locs. Your establishment is wonderful and I will recommend it if/when the opportunity presents itself. That was my experience, and maybe a policy you all may want to consider "tweeking"....maybe like a client "follow-up". All is very well now and thank you for starting my...
