Starting this by saying I can't believe the average review is 4 stars since every person I have met that lives here has a problem.
My roommate and I have lived here for about a year and a half. For the first year, we enjoyed living here with very minor issues. The mailroom is open to the public in a sense, so we did have an issue of stolen mail, as well as stolen packages. The stolen mail also included hundreds in birthday cards as well as my roommates new debit card.
However, in the last month we have had SEVERE safety issues. I had an attempted auto theft, leaving a final invoice of almost $6000 and no car for weeks. After getting my car back after three weeks, not even seven days later did I walk out to my car smashed on the body what seems to be a hit and run. It wasn't even just a scratch, it fully dented and broke my front bumper leaving me with another $2000 estimate after just getting my car back.
This is not a complaint on Allecia who is a manager of the leasing office. From my multiple conversations with her she does seem to show empathy and be apologetic. However, an "I'm sorry" only goes so far when you are left with thousands of dollars of unwarranted damages in the span of 3-4 weeks. I asked if there was any way to get any compensation since time and time again the building neglects safety concerns. The back gate is left open due to "maintenance" allowing anyone to just drive or walk in and attempt theft. Also, from my experience and filing two police reports in the last month, there seems to be zero cameras as well.
This is not just a coincidence or "bad luck". I know three other people that live in this complex and all three people have had some sort of "hit and run" or theft (smashed windows) on their vehicle.
We also witnessed another attempted theft in the same exact parking spot that I experienced mine two weeks to the day after my incident at 2 in the morning.
Not only am I just out thousands of dollars but I also have raging anxiety every night I go to bed in my own apartment because I do not know what I am going to wake up to in the morning. Even though these have only been auto incidents, it still makes me uncomfortable living in a complex that clearly has safety issues (just really look at the other reviews) with property management that doesn't seem to care to fix it or even throw a couple hundred dollars at your rent to help you.
The only "resolution" I have been given is that they have "security" come check the buildings 10 times a night (have never seen them) and that they are getting the gate fixed. Also, these issues are extremely severe I won't be calling the third party security company at 2am when someone is trying to steal my car. Pretty sure that's when you dial 911.
Please read all of the reviews before living here and understand that a little bit cheaper rent/ more square footage is not worth thousands in emergency expenses/...
Read moreI lived here for one 15 month lease, during which the dryer broke down, the AC broke down (mid-summer) and the garbage disposal broke down twice; Maintenance was in no hurry to fix the issues, nor did the office staff have any concern for our inconvenience. For living adjacent to an extremely threatening neighborhood on Freedom Drive, the outside gates surrounding the apartment complex operated successfully for an estimated 25% of my stay. The few times the gates were serviced and functioning, we annoyingly had to stop at the office to change outside gate-key access because the gates were no longer programmed for our old key fobs. The pool area was a scene from a college spring break vacation (literally) every day/weekend that the weather was nice enough to use it...broken glass and trash was left for days before being removed. One out of three complex grills were ever operational, so lines to cook formed daily, and the few times we were able to use it, propane was out, so bringing your own or refilling theirs were the only options. The dog park was basically a barren dirt field an 1/8 acre in size, which required a dog bath after every visit. Out of 3 complex computers, only 1 (rarely 2) was usually of working order, and of the 3 treadmills at the fitness center, 2 were always down for maintenance. At the end of our lease we were asked to resign after they had revealed to us that our rate would increase $240 more per month. Obviously deciding to move elsewhere, we were given the option of paying $75 for maintenance to clean our apartment, without us having to worry about it consuming time during our move. We were then charged an "excessive cleaning" fee which was not thoroughly addressed in the paperwork, even though our place was in very good standing. A very hefty non-refundable pet deposit was charged in the beginning of our stay, and then we were charged over $150 for carpet "cleaning" as they ripped up the carpet and took pictures of stains to show us "pet damages"(my dog is 3 and has not had an incident since 5 months old) even though the office staff had stated that they do not replace carpets every lease, only every 5-7 years(which is disgusting), and ours were brand new at move-in. The deposit was not put toward the alleged fees after arguing with staff, and the carpets were supposedly cleaned (after they were ripped up) and re-stapled to the floor. Friends who were still stuck in the complex saw trucks stocked with new carpet as workers hauled out the old.(obviously stating we were lied to) Move here if you want to be nickel and dimed for a below average complex which appears much better in pictures. IMO, there are several other well-priced options available near uptown which obliterate Wesley Village's inferior service and...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about Wesley Village. At its best, it was a truly great place to live — clean, well-maintained, and staffed by capable, caring people. Unfortunately, things changed. There was a noticeable decline in service and maintenance under the previous ownership, but things took a dramatic turn for the worse once Bell Partners took over.
They struggled to keep leasing and maintenance staff, and the property itself began to deteriorate. In my own unit, it literally rained inside for over a year. Despite repeated assurances from the Property Manager that the issue had been fixed, it clearly wasn’t.
During that time, I couldn’t figure out why I kept getting sick and eventually had to have surgery. Months later, I discovered that water had been running behind my walls all along — even tripping my breakers. When I raised concerns about the electrical issues, the Property Manager brushed them off, telling me it was no big deal and to just flip the breaker back on. Their own electrician, after seeing the extent of the damage, told me I should probably get a lawyer. And rather than take real steps to fix the problem, the Property Manager actually suggested that maybe I should just move out — but only if I was willing to pay the penalties for breaking my lease and cover all of the costs myself.
Eventually, that Property Manager quietly left, and the interim manager finally confirmed what I had suspected all along: Bell Partners wouldn’t authorize the necessary repairs.
To their credit, they did allow me to break my lease a month early — but they refused to return my security deposit. This was after I lived for over a month in a unit where a remediation company had torn out sections of damaged walls — walls that were never repaired or replaced before I moved out.
All told, I’m out over $8,000 because of this experience.
Now, I won’t tell anyone not to live at Wesley Village — but I strongly encourage future residents to document everything in writing, photos, and recordings. (North Carolina is a one-party consent state for recordings.) Protect yourself, because you may need it.
Update in response to the Wesley Village feedback. You suggest that I reach out to the office. I have reached out to the office and your corporate. No one...
