Great Lawn — Attraction in Chicago

Whether attending an evening concert or just hanging out on a random day, the Great Lawn attached to the Pritzker Pavilion is a wonderful place to lay out a blanket or bring some chairs and relax. Most events held here are completely free, and you can bring your own food and drinks (there are plenty of nearby establishments that can provide both). The lawn is always well maintained and great for adults and room for kids to explore. The overhead speakers and lighting ensure a pleasant experience, but the lawn itself is uncovered to be prepared in case of inclement weather. There are also beautiful gardens around the perimeter, as well as attractions such as Cloud Gate, the fountains, the Art Institute, Maggie Daley Park, and many others. The best option to get there is public transportation, but if you do drive, using the Millennium Park Garage (exit off of Columbus, go west once underground, then go all the way to the south end) is the most convenient for easy in and out access. Great Lawn to rozległa, starannie utrzymana murawa otaczająca Jay Pritzker Pavilion w Millennium Park. To nie jest zwykły trawnik – to prawdziwa scena życia miejskiego, gdzie spotykają się muzyka, pikniki, joga na świeżym powietrzu i zwykłe leniuchowanie w słońcu.

Powstał w 2004 roku jako część wielkiej transformacji terenów dawnej kolejowej pustyni w centrum Chicago. Dziś jest wizytówką nowoczesnego planowania przestrzennego: zielona przestrzeń wciśnięta pomiędzy drapacze chmur, z systemem nawadniania i drenażu tak sprytnym, że nawet po ulewie trawa szybko wraca do formy (w końcu to Chicago – tu pogoda zmienia się szybciej niż kurs dolara).

W letnie dni Great Lawn zmienia się w największą darmową salę koncertową świata – rozciągnięta nad nim stalowa siatka z głośnikami tworzy akustykę, której nie powstydziłby się niejeden filharmoniczny gmach. Możesz leżeć na kocu, popijać lemoniadę (albo coś bardziej „dla dorosłych”, jeśli nikt nie patrzy) i słuchać symfonii, jazzu czy koncertów rockowych, a wszystko to z widokiem na panoramę Chicago.

Poza muzyką to także idealne miejsce na rodzinne pikniki, poranne biegi, zajęcia jogi czy po prostu gapienie się w niebo. To taki luksusowy „ogród przed domem”, tylko że domem jest całe Chicago.

Great Lawn udowadnia, że wielkie miasto potrzebuje wielkiej trawy.
