Good market, quality produce, wide range of locally sourced products. Hot food. Live entertainment. Balloon twisting. Indoor location for the colder months. Biggest downside is that dogs are NOT allowed. I was not aware of this rule. Most of the people there were thrilled to meet and pet my dog, even the “security guard”. One vendor, however, clearly jealous of all the attention the dog was receiving, approached during a brief window where the the dog was not being swooned over, and asked us to leave. She couldn’t have been more polite about it, but I’m not a fan of the rule to begin with. Sure, some dogs can be a nuisance, and I feel it is the owners’ responsibility to know whether or not their dog can handle highly stimulating social events like a farmers market. Then there’s the matter of health and cleanliness. Yes, some dogs are likely to jump up to the edge of a table to see what’s going on up there. Again, it is up to the owner to control their pet. While standing patiently in line today, waiting to pay for vegetables, with the dog sitting between my legs, we saw a young girl, probably 3 years old, pick up a blueberry, put it in her mouth, make an icky face, she then took the blueberry out of her mouth and placed it right back in the basket where she’d found it. The mother, meanwhile, was completely oblivious to what her daughter was doing. Do they ban children? No,...
Read moreThis is a lovely indoor and outdoor farmers market. It's outdoors near Jay Street during the very short warm season in upstate NY and indoors during the remainder of the year. The indoor market is around proctor's theater across from Jay Street. The indoor market tends to be smaller than the outdoor market.
A good variety of farm stands, bakeries, restaurants, crafts, and everything in between. It's always fun walking from stand to stand to see what each vendor is selling. Most have delicious free samples or business cards to take for order crafts from home.
There is live music that rotates depending on your tastes. The time we went was a bluegrass band which was really good. There are usually also folks doing balloon animals or face painting for little kids.
A nice variety of food to eat as you peruse the market, from empanadas to lemonade and cookies.
An offshoot to the market is Jay Street which has more vendors and store fronts which are equally as good as the market itself.
Overall, it's a great way to spend a few hours every Sunday out of the house. Most places take cash or card, but some take only cash. Bring your...
Read moreGreen Market is great overall. Just some vendors tried food would ask not for only quality of food especially authentic ones like empanadas. It's great idea and snack too but dough made and presentation with the taste shows in my opinion is simple just not respect to authentic meals stand try to represent and shame on them. Dough is very heavy, chicken is tasteless. In the end? Will I purchase it again? Not at all. If stand owner would have given away trial samples, everyone would win because she would have feedbacks right away. Sweet potato salad was great versus stuffed cabbage which instead description ground beef with rice would better say rice with the beef 😂😂😂. Tasteless accept too much salt and cabbage so hard because was not enough cooked apparantly. Vendors forgot that pasta should be undercooked but cabbage must be cooked enough. So, 1 to 5 ratings. Where 1 is poor and 5 is excellent. 😂😂😂 Empanada chicken-bestseller according sign is 1; Sweet potato salad is 4; Stuffed cabbage is 2 unfortunately. Good luck hot food vendors! P.S. fresh produce, pickled goods and dairy are...
