Ok so somehow Iām the first person to leave a review for the new IMAX stadium and Iām very mad about the āupgradedā IMAX. They somehow made the screen smaller than it was before and the smaller size very noticeable and the laser projection doesnāt do anything different. The railings have got to go to, theyāre incredibly distracting since they block out a good portion of the bottom of the screen.
The sound was also not good it was very lacking, watching the odyssey prologue hear vs at amc Lincoln square was honestly depressing the sound didnāt even make my ears ring like it did at Lincoln square. The only thing that shouldāve been upgraded was the standard auditoriums and left everything else alone, I did not enjoy watching avatar here at all, I will not be back š”.
Yea the last IMAX movie I watched before the ārenovationsā was parasite, that movie wasnāt made for imax at all but yet that movie was a better experience than I had with avatar today. I remember the trailer for HTTYD was deafening and when I watched interstellar here to the sound was so loud that I could feel it vibrating off of my pants, the sound today was no where near the same as it was then. While it it is unlikely I hope they at least gave the 4dx equipment to the regal at eastview so that the people of Syracuse will have a 4dx theater within a hours drive.
The rpx adds nothing (aside from louder sound I guess) itās just what a standard movie experience should be, the only movie that has ever filled up the rpx screen was the boy and heron and it doesnāt even have recliners. If all the movies filled up the entire rpx screen then I guess rpx would be better, but all the movies always have the black bars for not even that big...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHaven't been to a Regal Cinema in well over three years so this was my first time back to see how they're competing against Movie Tavern in Camillus.
Theater: Theater was clean and the chairs are new but not sure if they were the reclining type since I couldn't find a button. However you were still pack in like passengers in coach class on airline with no elbow room and barely enough leg room to stretch out. Advantage: Movie Tavern
Concessions: Still on the outside of the theater and menu was broken up all over the place. Took me a while to find the items I wanted but I found it to be lacking. If you wanted anything you still had to leave the theater and miss portions of the movie. Advantage: Movie Tavern
Concessions Price: Cheaper and had value bundles for popcorn and drinks. Not sure about the ordered stuff since I didn't get any bit you had to stay there to get it. Advantage: Draw on Price
Picture and sound: No complaints. On par with Movie Tavern. Advantage: Draw
Employees: Cold and disconnected. College age girl checking tickets was too busy on her phone and didn't look like she wanted to be there to even acknowledge our presence. Employees on the concession stand were fast to ask of we've been helped but that's about it. Advantage: Movie Tavern
All and all Movie Tavern maybe more expansive but the selection is far superior to Regal and you'll have a better cinematic experience especially with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI unfortunately cannot recommend Regal Destiny USA in Syracuse. Not the brand I usually use but am traveling for work and wanted to see Shazam. The two employees we interacted with were fine; friendly in fact. They weren't the problem. It's a corporate issue.
We went to see the movie in IMAX because that was the best time for our schedule. $17?For what, exactly? I guess the screen was bigger than a normal screen; couldn't tell any difference in picture quality than the cinema I normally go to. The sound was ridiculously loud. The decibel level was off the charts and piercing; not big and immersive. I ended up stuffing a piece of napkin in my ears. As many action movies as I've seen in theaters, I've never had to do that before. One of the people I was with actually went to alert theater staff but there was no discernable difference. The seats were okay but not loungers like my cinema (which is cheaper, btw even though it's in a larger metropolitan area).
I expect concessions at a movie theater to be expensive; this was next level. The premium draft beer I had the previous night in the same mall was cheaper than a small fountain drink at the theater. Seriously. An overall disappointing experience that soured me on the movie a bit (though...
