While I was initially excited for my second lobe piercing, my experience since has been largely negative and frustrating. Prior to the piercing, the manager was kind and patient in helping me to select to the best method and earrings. After waiting for the nurse (who arrived 20 minutes late, seemingly without a care for the client’s time), I told the nurse that I wore the specific studs in my first hole since that is the pair I wear every day. I also pointed out that there was a lot of space medial to my first piercing and wanted it to be evenly pierced. After some trial and error, the nurse placed the blue marker dots on my ear and asked for my consent. I did not feel like I could take my time deciding since the next few customers were already waiting. While I agreed, I also did not know it was still possible for the piercings to be uneven. After the piercing (done with a device gun) was complete, I mentioned they didn’t look even. The nurse adjusted the earrings in an attempt to fix it. After leaving the store, I confirmed with several peers that the piercings were not only uneven, but were also too close together so that I would be limited in what type of earrings I could wear. After looking closer, it became apparent that one piercing was done at the top end of the blue marker dot, while the other was done at the bottom. I called Rowan that afternoon and was told I would need to go back in to have it assessed, with the manager telling me it’s possible I could let it close and then get it repierced. When asked if this would be complimentary, I was told “it can be.” I called back a few days later once I had time to go into the store to again check my options before going in. I was extensively questioned about what I meant by “uneven” and that ultimately it’s my fault bc I consented, and not the result of a job not well done. When asked if I would need to pay for another piercing, I was told this would be up to the manager if he was in the store when I went in, however no information could be provided as to when and where to find the manager. For a job that cost $140, this experience has been very disappointing and largely negative. I would recommend using a location that doesn’t “eyeball” the piercing but rather uses precise...
Read moreIncluded two stars for Rowan’s fair pricing (my daughter’s first piercings were A LOT more expensive elsewhere) and the receptionist who was very polite and professional.
Act 1: My daughter purchased a simple pair of earrings and asked for a post change. She had previously been pierced at the Greenpoint location and they were lovely. Here in Westchester, were told to come back the next day because the nurses leave at 6. Ok, that’s fair.
Act 2: We return the next afternoon and are asked if we have an appointment. No mention of appointments was made the prior day (and walk ins are mentioned on the website), but we agreed to come back around 45 minutes later. We returned a little after 5. The nurse in duty basically FLIPPED OUT to the receptionist about performing a post change because she was leaving at 5:30, not 6pm as originally stated. I had never seen any piercer act so incredibly rude in front of clients, including the ones she was piercing. Sooo since nobody was available despite us being promised a slot, I made an appointment for my daughter a couple of days in advance.
Finally.. Shortly after getting a text confirming the appointment, I receive a call to cancel it. The nurse, once again, is leaving early and nobody will be available. I brought her to my piercer for the post change and we have no plans to return to this Rowan location. As a business owner myself, it is hard to comprehend how a piercing place does not have adequate staff (for piercing) during business hours and the disgusting attitude of the nurse leaves a terrible impression. The location is very convenient and hopefully they...
Read moreMy experience with Rowan was horrible and unprofessional from start to finish, culminating in us walking out and taking our business to Claire's!
My appointment was ruined before it even began. At 5:20pm (my appointment was for 5:45pm) , I received a startling voicemail aggressively warning me that if I was not "early or on time" I would not be serviced. This created unnecessary anxiety and a frantic rush for a baby's ear piercing appointment.
Rowan made an automatic, racist assumption that I did not speak English, leaving TWO consecutive voicemails entirely in Spanish! In said voicemails I was told that if I am not inside the store by 5:50 I will not be serviced. This is unprofessional and deeply insulting.
Despite being aggressively pressured to arrive on time, the facility was clearly not prepared. When we arrived at the strict 5:50 arrival time we were commanded to meet, the nurse was already packing up and displayed a very poor and unprofessional attitude. We were denied service despite following their own frantic instructions!
Due to this unacceptable service, we left and went straight to Claire's. It was immediately clear we made the right choice. Claire’s uses the same exact "hand pressurized device" as Rowan but Claire’s actually offer an appropriate selection of jewelry for babies.
Rowan's conduct was unprofessional, the staff was rude, and the immediate assumption of language was discriminatory! Rowan is offering discounts to people that leave positive reviews following my poor review!
Save yourself the headache and go...
