This rating is purely for the "French Bistro" cooking class that my husband and I took. I quite like the store, and everyone working there has been a tremendous help each time we've made a purchase -- the store gets a 5/5.
We took a cooking class expecting to cook, but instead we chopped vegetables and watched the head chef do all the cooking for us. I'm fine with some demonstration and instruction, but this was 80% demonstration, 15% chopping, 5% eating. We prepared not one single component by ourselves. At one point we were finally allowed to cook our steaks and the head chef got noticeably upset that our pans were smoking and claimed we were burning things. She hurried us off the stovetop after only a couple minutes. What actually happened is that the chef's dutch oven filled with boiling vegetable oil (for the fries) had bubbled over and coated the stovetop earlier, so anything cooked on the stovetop afterwards was smoking; it was actually her error. Because of the chef's desire to reduce "burning," she took it upon herself to cook the sauce in entirety as we all watched.
We didn't cook anything. I feel for $90 pp, this "class" was not worth the cost. We could've gone to a nice steakhouse and had a much larger meal for the cost of 2 of these classes. I would...
Read moreSave your money because I don't recommended this cooking class. They start it by giving you aprons that stink. Then you have to share your ingredients with another 3 people in the table that you do not know. They only give enough for one person to prepare. The chef shows you a bunch of things very quickly by the time you get back to your station he gave so much information you do not remember how to exactly cut and prepare things especially if you never cooked before. You aren’t really cooking either the chef cooks everything you just are cutting the ingredients for him and the meat he already prepared ahead of time. Its very unsanitary because what you are preparing is being touched by everyone at your table but then they take it away and gets mixed with the other tables stuff and you don’t know which one you get back. You are unsure if the other table washed their hands or what they did to it. They also serve the salad which was never washed.Once the food came out the ravioli was completely undercooked where it was not edible. This class is very disorganized you don’t learn anything cooking related and...
Read moreI think it’s hilarious that you can call this a “cooking class”. We watched the chef prepare cook and serve the prime rib and the dessert as well as do all of the prep work for the appetizer. The only thing we got to do was toss a salad and fry the laktas. They had us leave the room to go buy stuff in the store while they “prepared the room to eat”. There was also an insane amount of unpreparedness throughout the entire experience. If you are going to have an expensive experience, at least be prepared with everything you need to cook the food. Don’t have your class watch someone crack pepper for a rub for 10 mins and have to ask for certain things - everything should be preset. The little details are what makes an expensive experience worth it.
This “experience” cost approximately $180 for 2 ppl and did not come with any alcohol. I suggest going to a restaurant with an open window into the kitchen - it’s the same experience but with better food and at least alcohol for the same price we paid. I do not recommend...
