Went here because it was the only thing open late at night. The service was awful. Keep in mind, there were only two other occupied tables our entire time there and our table was the only one our waitress was tending to. Another server was dealing with the others.
Our waitress took a super long time to come by our table for the first time, and proceeded to ask if we were ready to order. I told her no, but we were ready to put in our drinks. She looked at me, said "okay" and walked away. We were very confused and I felt it was rude.
She came back after awhile and we ordered. Things were fine, and then awhile later she came back, and told my friend they were out of bagels, which was the only thing this friend ordered. She needed a menu to reorder, and by the time it was brought to her, the rest of our food was coming out. We thought it was ridiculous that it took that long for anyone to realize and notify us of the issue. When this friend re-ordered, it took a very long time to arrive, longer than before, and she ordered the same thing as I did, so it shouldn't have taken that much time realistically.
The omelets were okay, but the chocolate chip pancakes were too crispy and the chocolate chips were not dispersed throughout. The waitress never asked if we needed refills, which I did for awhile. Finally, after super subpar service, the bill arrived with 18% gratuity already added, for our table of four. I have never, ever, seen gratuity added for a table less than 6.
On top of that, we were charged an 18% "service charge." While we are from out of state, I have never been charged such a large service charge anywhere else. We brought this up to another waitress because she was nearby, and she seemed genuinely confused about it as well. She took our check, spoke to someone, and came back and vaguely tried to explain, but it still was not making sense and it seemed like she still didn't know.
I continuously asked what the service charge is even put toward. She left, and our server came back, and was super disrespectful and outright rude and demeaning toward me. She said, "Get your calculators out," several times in a condescending tone and proceeded to get her own out and held it inches from my face while inputting the numbers on the bill, reading them aloud in a rude tone as if I was a child. I tried to be patient but her attitude was horrendous so I, again, asked what the charge is for. She, very rudely, told us "for the table, for the cups, for the cleaning." So, things that just come with running a restaurant? Never in my life have I had to pay to use cups at a restaurant LOL
So ultimately we were forced to pay a 36% tip on top of our bill. 3 sodas, 3 omelets, and 1 order of chocolate chip pancakes cost us $74. I do NOT recommend this...
Read moreBroke our religious impact!! Our server didn't get the order right: they brought out French fries instead of mashed potatoes that we ordered. We pointed out we didn't order french fries, also the roast beef didn't come out with mashed potatoes which total of 2 mashed potatoes were missing. Oscar, the server checked his note, and a few minutes later he brought out missing side orders. The worst part is that, we do NOT drink alcohol for religious reason. We asked 2 strawberry virgin Margaritas. They brought 2 lemon Margaritas (not strawberry), we took them anyways since they already made them. We are very reasonable, patient people: if the server is good, we tip them good, we also we like to tip the busboys. This is the first time we are not going to tip the server! The first time we sipped the margaritas, it tasted different, sour almost spicy, we are not sure how to describe. We both realized that we tasted alcohol after first swallow. We called one of the servers, asked if the drink contained alcohol, he confirmed it was!! With a guilty feeling, extreme disappointment, the shock, head started spinning... We sat there for a few minutes to get out of panicked feelings. The manager (we asked if he was the owner, he said he was the manger) who said his name was "Jimmy" (the man at the bar) came out and said "So what?! We didn't charge you for it!" The apology didn't come out of his mouth first. We explained that we asked for non-alcohol drink, instead they brought alcohol drink along with the other messed up orders, the first one being the most serious! His response was "This is the only way to make margaritas! Sorry!" And kept defending his servers, even though he wasn't listening to us. They brought the check that showed the bill for meals they didn't completely serve, as they advertised on the menu. The server didn't bring out the complete meals as advertised on their menu! Again!! Didn't even offer the desserts that went with the meals. After tasting alcohol with the error of non-attentive waiter and super defensive angry manager that make us feel only worse, we didn't want to eat dinner. We negotiated with the manager, he agreed to take one dinner off the bill. Neither of us ate dinner they brought out. We could have, if they were very apologetic that could have made us feel better as it was really genuine mistake. We paid the bill and left. No wonder why no one wants to work there with hiring sign that look like almost for...
Read moreWhite Plains Coach Diner: An Underwhelming Experience with a Lingering Discomfort
White Plains Coach Diner is one of those places that lands squarely in the middle—neither impressing nor completely disappointing. While my visit there had its share of acceptable moments, certain aspects left much to be desired.
Food Quality
The food at White Plains Coach Diner was decent, albeit unremarkable. It wasn’t the type of meal that would draw you back for more, but it also wasn’t bad enough to leave you regretting the visit. The menu offers a typical diner selection, and the dishes I tried were adequately prepared. However, nothing stood out in terms of flavor or presentation. If you’re looking for a quick, passable meal, this diner will suffice, but don’t expect culinary excellence.
Service and Atmosphere
Service at the diner was similarly mediocre. The staff were neither overly friendly nor outright rude—they simply seemed to go through the motions. There was a noticeable lack of enthusiasm or warmth, which detracted from the overall dining experience. The workers didn’t radiate much life, leaving the ambiance somewhat flat and uninviting. It felt as though they were there to get the job done and little more.
Unpleasant Odors
The most significant issue, however, was the smell. Upon entering the diner, I was greeted by an older gentleman who handled payments and welcomed guests. Unfortunately, the man had a strong, unpleasant odor that lingered as I was shown to my seat. Worse still, the diner itself had a pervasive smell reminiscent of a retirement home, which made the meal far less enjoyable. This odor issue seriously undermined any positive aspects of the visit and is something the establishment needs to address urgently.
Overall Impression
In conclusion, White Plains Coach Diner is a place where mediocrity reigns. The food and service are adequate but uninspired, and the overall lack of enthusiasm from the staff makes for an underwhelming experience. The most pressing concern, however, is the unpleasant smell that permeates the diner, which significantly detracts from the dining experience. Unfortunately, this is not a place I would recommend, particularly given the discomfort caused by the odors. If you’re in the area and looking for a place to eat, there are likely better...
