I wish Giant Eagle on West 117th street would go back to being open 24 hours especially seeing as how the 10:00 p.m. curfew was removed. Edit 2/12/24 this giant eagle has an extremely racist cashier. Usually when I shop I use self checkout. I put my ph# AND last name in and it accepts it NO ISSUES. Today I put the phone# /last name and it does not accept it.I say to the cashier I don't have my Giant Eagle card can you use my driver's license and she tells me that NO she cant do it that way! It's literally closing time she has half of my stuff wrung up, I have my wallet out. She asks me to put the ph# again I say it's not accepting it and she asked me what the phone number is I give her the number I tell her it's my late husband's old old phone number. Maybe 6 minutes later I explained to her I won't get the discounts if I can't use my card and still she keeps saying tell me the last name etc. People change phone numbers all the time I've been shopping here for 30 years! Another couple minutes later she finally says what's your license# I tell her. Rudely she says stop wait. Mind you I'm not saying it fast. I have stuff on the bottom of the cart I go to pull it around and she, literally, with my bad back has me lift heavy bags of cat food/ cat litter etc.to just below the register so that she can ring it up with the scanner she sees I'm struggling to hold it. I offered to pull the cart around she does not allow me to do that . That hurt my back..Can I sue Giant Eagle ?! The whole time she is ringing me up she's talking to the people behind me laughing joking and being friendly,they are the same race as she is. I have never had someone be this openly racist towards me. I know racism exists unfortunately it may always exist there will always be people like her out there that are like that. Read moreAfter 6 months of using this as my primary grocery store, I had a really awful experience last night that frankly I can’t believe happened, and I will never be returning back. The only recourse I have left is to share my story here.
Last night I purchased $400 worth of groceries and supplies as I’m leaving on a week long camping trip I’ve been planning for 3 years. $300 of that was supposed to go to my food EBT card, and the remainder on my debit. Unfortunately, when the machine tried to charge the full amount to the EBT it was rejected, and the cashier didnt notice, so I accidentally charged the full purchase to my bank, draining my account to zero. At the moment neither myself nor the cashier realized what happened.
It hit me as I was checking the receipt walking out of the store, and I immediately went to customer service, but it was already closed for the day.
The manager on duty that evening informed me that they could correct the transaction if I came back the next morning when customer service reopened, which I did today.
Upon my return I was informed that there was nothing they could do, and without even giving me a chance to finish politely explaining the situation, the female manager on duty today began speaking at me in an accusatory tone, telling me that it’s 100% my fault and they can’t do anything. Even if that is true, I would have liked to have been given a chance to fully explain myself without being cut off, but she clearly had no interest in even attempting to assist me.
Unfortunately now I have no money to cover the travel for the trip I spent all that money on in the first place until my next paycheck. Even if Giant Eagle couldn’t do anything to help, a little compassion and helpfulness from management would have gone a long way here. As a paying customer I expect to be treated with more respect and will never spend money at this...

So gaint eagle does not like when you self check out with a cart full of stuff so I go to the register there a cashier and a girl helping bag so fyi NOT ONE PERSON by the time I get everything on the belt alot of my food is bagged I'm picking up bags and they are just ripping wide open they are so full that food is hanging out the top and just falling out the bag mind you I grouped the food on the belt bags boxes cans meat bread ext so I tried removing items thinking she would get the hint NOPE she didn't so I asked her can she please stop putting so much in each bag she looked dead in my face and said well do you not want your stuff bagged then ? wow right? lmao so I gradded one of the bags and it couldn't even get off the table before it busted wide open 7 family size boxes in one bag I replied I want my stuffed bagged but I also want to be able to keep the food in the bag she continues to bag and I just keep my mouth shut cause at this point I had nothing nice to say as the bags got heavier and heavier so skip to loading the car over half the bags ripped even picking them up with both hand from the bottom and placing them in the truck unloading the truck was funnier only 3 bags out of about 16 actually made it in the house just unbelievable I spent 394 $ to be disrespected and to have to carry in my groceries in ...
