An impressive building, with a lot of tech, but large oversight by whoever planned it. They went through all the coordination to have study rooms with 24/7 access, food trucks to park outside, even a Starbucks installed inside of the building, but what is the number one question among students? "WHERE IS THE MICROWAVE?!" You can study there all night, but good luck reheating a healthy home cooked meal. Additionally, if they could find a way to prevent one person from reserving a 14 person room and studying in it for multiple hours, that would help the groups that need access to the rooms. On the positive, the EDC looks like it has all the bells and whistles with improvements from the old EIC, And there are printers allover the place which makes printing out assignments really easy. But again, it looks and feels like it should be a one stop shop for all your engineering needs, unless you want to...
Read moreUnder construction at the intersection of University Drive and Bizzell Street, the Zachry Engineering Education Complex will be a modern, technology-integrated facility dedicated to undergraduate engineering education.
It will be the largest academic building on campus and unlike any other facility in the nation. The 525,000-square-foot complex completely modernizes the original Zachry Engineering Center and expands the facility to include a state-of-the-art Engineering Design Center.
The complex will revolutionize the way they deliver education to undergraduate students. It will be a departure from the traditional classroom and lecture hall and focus on student-centered design to optimize modern learning techniques...
Read moreDo you like fancy, expensive, incredible engineering equipment such as 3D printers capable of printing metal? Well so do I, along with most engineering students. Too bad these items are all for show and not for actual use! Even large university sponsored design teams are not allowed to use the devices and the technicians themselves have admitted that they are only for show.
When students have to pay thousands of dollars to attend such a top-tier university, I believe we should have access to such equipment instead of letting it sit...
