Broadway Marketplace — Attraction in Columbia Township

Broadway Market Place has evolved so much over the 21 years I've been around the Columbia area. It was a semi-successful shopping area, but had lost its grocery store to competition with Walmart Supercenter. There weren't many restaurant options, getting in and out was a royal PITA. But, it has grown substantially. Walmart, Sam's Club, Lowe's have been joined by Hy-Vee, which has eatery options of various buffets and a Grand Buffet, ready made options, diner options, a great Chinese Kitchen, deli, bakery, Homestyle food, and Italian, plus a full-service Grille and a bar. The service was awful, the prices too high and having nothing but a cardboard tube in the bathroom stalls left much to be desired. When I informed the waitress of the absence of bathroom tissue she uttered a sorry while walking away then leaned on the booth behind us to chat with a friend so I had to walk up to the front to ask the other lady ( I assume was the supervisor) for to go containers. She also seemed more interested in chatting with our waitress than asking us if everything was satisfactory. As we were boxing our food our waitress did finally ask if we would like more coffee. Wow! I was very impressed with this HyVee location! It was huge yet well organized with a selection I'm envious of coming from my usual Kirksville store. It was clean and everything was shelved and packaged with care! The effort makes a difference! Despite visiting late in the evening multiple employees were available to help in the different departments as well as on the registers. This one is a great example of what all HyVee stores and grocery stores should strive to be.
