Went in on Friday night March 1st with my wife with intention of buying her new shoes. Went to the sporting good section and my wife seen a handgun she wanted (Glock 43). She decided to buy the firearm and went through the background check no problem. Well for some reason unexplained to us they couldnât âring upâ the firearm for purchase. We spent over an hour walking from the front of the store to the sporting goods trying to ring up the merchandise. Finally after wasting an hour we were advised that they couldnât figure it out and took my wifeâs contact information promising an update in the morning.
The next morning March 2nd at around noon we had no call. With it being my wifeâs birthday and having plans for the day I decided to call academy to see if a trip into town was needed. I spoke with âcrystalâ whom was very rude on the phone and identified herself as the assistant manager. After getting treated disrespectfully I asked crystal for the corporate phone number and was advised that she would not be giving it to me due to not wanting them involved. Crystal hung up the phone on me after again asking for the corporate phone number.
I then called the academy in Columbia Missouri and spoke to the store director âMichaelâ about the situation. Michael stated he had got information about the issue in Jefferson City but didnât know how to solve the issue at the time. I discussed with him about what happened with Crystal and again asked for the corporate phone number to voice a complaint. Michael stated he didnât want to give me the number due to him believing that corporate would make matters worse for them and would âget in the way.â Michael stated he would call me daily with updates. Michael also stated the Jefferson City store manager âKayleeâ would be in on Monday to possibly solve the issue.
I then proceeded to call the corporate phone number later that afternoon after locating it on Google. Corporate took my complaint and contact information and stated a âspecialist should be in contact within 24 hours.â
Sunday, at 1300 hours still no word from academy. I called corporate again and this time spoke with a supervisor whom took my complaint seriously and stated it would be looked into.
Monday, March 4th at 4:30 pm my wife went to academy to see if she could complete the transaction and was told they couldnât at the time due to a I.T. problem. My wife stated the manager (Dustin or Justin) spoke to her through a cracked door in an awkward manner in the sporting goods area.
Overall the customer service/ interaction is horrible and my friends and family will take our businesses where we are treated with respect and where itâs recognized that customers buying merchandise is what keeps a company flourishing. I feel academy needs to rethink the management team they have going for them. What kind of manager refuses to give the customer the corporate phone number and then hangs up? The compensation nor discount was offered for our time nor troubles except a $25.00 dollar gift card. Will update in a weeks time as to if academy/corporate takes care of this customer and these...

I went to purchase a gift card, and for some reason when I swiped my debit card originally, their system stated âinvalid account.â They automatically assumed it was the debit card... even though the transaction receipt looked as though my card was charged the $50. I then immediately looked at my banking app, and it too showed the transaction of $50 at the store (which I made them aware of). They called their headquarters, who also stated the transaction was in error and the original $50 will not be charged to my card. I then ran my card again for another gift card... thinking the initially transaction was voided; however BOTH $50 transactions were indeed charged on my debit card as of 3 days later. I went back to the store to request either another $50 gift card or $50 refund on my debit card (as they had then charged me $100 for a $50 gift card). I was told by the manager and assistant manger that they would have to take up the issues with their âTreasury Deptâ and I would not be refunded until they looked at the situation. Now how is THEIR error now MY problem?? How does Academy charge me $100 for a gift card, when I only received a $50 gift card??    Read moreCame inside on 11/10 around 1040am to look around before grabbing a pick up order couldnât find anything to i presented to the customer service desk a nice gentleman i believe his name was Joshua was trying to assist me but the computer was not on so he had to have someone else come up. A short Caucasian woman came up short hair and glasses not sure of her name anyways she did something with the computer and asked for my ID did not greetwhich i showed her she then ripped the pick up sticker off of my bag and says âhereâ then THREW THE BAG ON THE COUNTER IN FRONT OF ME TO TAKE HOME! I found that to be rude and unprofessional this lady has NO BUSINESS working in a customer service setting at all i was shocked at her actions normally i would have said something to her as i do not take kindly to blatant disrespect but i was so in shock at what happened i just took the bag and walked to my car to write this review.
