Overall, this was an excellent escape room. Everything was very well maintained, the props were time period specific, and no clues had sharpies to make certain things obvious, like other escape rooms do. However, the KGB room handcuffs you (technically with a way to escape in case of emergency), but they put you in the dark for that, and have heavy binoculars (that weren't needed for the game) positioned to fall on your toes, causing injuries, beyond just the pain of a line of heavy chains pulling down on painful handcuffs. Most escape rooms involving handcuffs do not have more than one puzzle to solve (and generally that "puzzle" is finding a key), this one required 2 puzzles and a search in the dark. By the time we finished that we were all pretty frustrated, despite it being an overall really good game.
They should replace the handcuffs with leather cuffs, or something that doesn't cut into your wrists, and replace the chains with plastic chains. An escape room is about having fun, not causing pain, and to sacrifice painful time accurate props to be less painful materials, that do the purpose of what they're there for (restraining).
Also, the lounge should teach you how to read a Russian clock (to the minute, not just at a 15 minute increment), it would also be good to label that puzzle as helpful for the KGB room.
Edit: I think based on the reply from the owner, they just lost my business. I'm dropping it to a 1 star. An escape room shouldn't be considered difficult because it's painful. There are ways to keep it realistic without causing physical pain. And there was literally no reason for the binoculars to be in the room at all. They didn't serve as a decoy (there wasn't anything that suggested you use them or anything) or as a clue.
Before you do this escape room, I would weigh whether you think physical pain is fun or not. Read the reply, they have made it clear that they do not care about a fun experience, but rather a realistic one. Having plastic chains, or leather cuffs would not make the room any less difficult, it would just be safer and more enjoyable.
The binoculars that fell on my toes were in a bag in the first box you unlock. Because the owner has not given any confidence that it was truly an accident, here is a room spoiler.
When you go into the room, you are locked in 2 lines of chains. You have to search on the wall for the combination to a lock that is out of reach of the chain that you are cuffed to. You have to lift the chain over the bench to get extra length on the chain so that you can reach the far lock box. There is a number hidden in the dark on the exit door, that is not apparent (that'd be fine if you weren't in tight handcuffs), once you enter the combination to the lock, 2 boxes open, and the lights turn out leaving you in the dark. The box nearest the person that entered the combination has an obvious puzzle in it, but also 2 bags, that look like they would hold keys. These do not hold keys, they hold heavy binoculars that fall out as you check the bags, in most escape rooms the keys would be in this bag, as most escape rooms are meant to be a challenging, but enjoyable experience, not some kinky 50 shades of Gray stuff.
This escape room is run by completely irresponsible owners.
Edit 2: just got a call from the owner (at 11PM), threatening to report this review to Google. And claiming that this was the first time anyone has ever complained. Not a big fan of owners that put you in dangerous situations and then harass you. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend anyone even consider looking into this escape room. In this call the owner also confirmed that the binoculars that fell on my toes were in the correct spot, thus proving he lied in his...
Read moreWas stopping into town for a pit stop and decided to get food and look for some Entertainment when I stumbled acorss found this place. Me and my father walked in looking to get a room, and we picked the Jail Break room. Going into it everything was great! There was waivers needed to be signed, which is understandable, and they gave us tickets for the room which is a first and was a pretty good idea. They have a quite medium-large sized lounge, table tops, a TV, couch, a bar, and it can fit roughly 30-40 maybe more. That was a nice touch to the place, very nice and applicable. Once we where brought to the room I thought we where going to be given an instruction on how to use locks and an intro to the story, I was wrong. We where informed of the story and a little bit of information about the game and that’s it. Jail break is apparently their beginner room, however even if I never played before like my father it would have been nice to know what type of locks where in the room and how to use them. Now there were no directional locks or speciality just keypads, alphabetical locks and key locks. Which are pretty simple. Now Jailbreak as room isn’t a bad idea, multiple places I’ve seen have given a crack at it and they are really well planned out and thorough . This room was really nice, I won’t spoil too much but it looks like a genuine jail cell however that’s it....none of the puzzles in the beginning related to the theme. Let’s just say some “more than basic” math is involved. You must be able to multiply big numbers, if not then your screwed. They gave us white boards in order to figure out the math but it took us a couple attempts to figure the numbers. After that the only room that related was the final room, which was pretty cool even though one puzzle might get you stuck if you take a misdirection...
Final over all reaction: -customer service is spectacular, there’s drinks, tables, TV and all round taken care of -jail break in my opinion is not suitable for children unless adult present to due numbers squared. -I expected more puzzles pertaining to theme. for introduction I expected a lock tutorial. -room aesthetic was well put together and was a well designed
Not bashing the place and their 5 stars I bet the other rooms are well put together. I would recommend this place if you would like to pass the time!! I’ve done multiple escape rooms they are exciting to see other companies take on missions!! Good luck...
Read moreWe Competed contagion on 10/5/2021 and had an horrid experience. Out of 68 completed escape rooms, this location was the most expensive, least caring staff/management, and the worst escape room I have attempted. When we arrived, we were told that room was supposed to have a minimum of 3 people. Being unaware of that, our group only had 2 participants, but we were told it was possible to complete the room anyway. That couldn’t have been further from the truth! 15 minutes or so into our game play, one of the prop malfunctioned and we were told that we couldn’t enter the room opened when it wasn’t supposed to. That caused all kinds of chaos and confusion between our group, resulting in loss of game time. Besides that, there was a prop involving water. When the time came, it was impossible to get the keys out of the prop due to the confined space of the container that they were in. Other than that, a bunch of random lockers were thrown in the room with random ways to find the combinations or keys that didn’t make sense. This room was a jumbled, and confusing mess that was not worth the price of admission. After exiting the room, we were actually told that we paid for 3 people and we were not aware of that. Had I know that were paying $108 for 3 participants, we would have brought along someone else. When’s we confronted them and told them that it was unclear to us, we were told that there was nothing they could do, and that we were out of luck. Charging $108 for 2 people to complete one escape room is absurd. The highest quality escape rooms in Orlando don’t even charge that much. The worst part about the entire experience is that nobody cared that our room had malfunctioned and that we paid $108 for 2 people. This is my 68th escape room, and I can say it’s the worst one I have completed. I am requesting that management reached out to me to...
