This is single-handedly the most careless and unaccountable management team I have ever worked with. If you are looking to live here, it is important to know upfront that your requests will never be acknowledged. If you call The View on Pavey Square to ask a question, they will simply refer you to an email address that is poorly, if at all, managed by the staff. If you go in-person to address concerns, you will be greeted by a student worker (who unfortunately will be improperly trained and will have to face the brunt of furious parents). When you ask a student worker if you can talk to one of their managers, they will say that their higher-ups are in a meeting or busy. We've all worked before, and as a result, we've all had our bosses tell us the exact same thing when they are not in the mood to deal with people. This is pretty ironic to me considering that the management of this building signed up for a people-facing role, but they always seem to be behind closed doors when you need to take care of something urgent. You really have to push the management if you want something done, which is outrageous considering the prices being charged for rent at this building. Who has the time to follow-up their own emails 3+ times to maybe get a response? Who has the time to put their rent in escrow or file a lawsuit when the building is described to be "off-campus living at its finest"?
I get that people are busy and that the staff may take 24-48 hours to send out a response regarding my questions/concerns. However, I have a problem that should imminently be resolved (I have been overcharged rent for the past 2 months), but has not been addressed since my first email was sent 17 days ago. Although I'm being overcharged $65 a month (which isn't too bad when looking at it in installments), this equates to $780 per year. In the grand scheme of things, a company should not have this lax of a policy when there's nearly $1,000 on the table. Living in this building truly feels like you're just arguing with a wall. On top of this, on the rare occasion that you do receive a response, no accountability is taken on behalf of the management. Over the summer, I had an issue that I needed addressed, and I was sadly forced to send a harsh email so that I would be heard. In management's response, they stated that they have tried to get ahold of me for several days. However, according to my call logs (which are obviously valid), they had called me a single time 2 hours before they sent me the email response mentioned above. You would think that for how much residents pay and for how serious many of these issues are, the staff would treat you with some respect. However, I'd urge you to not expect that upon signing a lease for this building.
Despite how well you are treated when taking a tour of this building, please take it with a grain of salt and know that the inconveniences listed above are what you'll most likely be dealing with if you choose to live in The View on Pavey Square. I've really tried to have a positive attitude about living here, but it's come to the point where it's just not...
Read moreI lived here for two years and cannot stress this enough: DO NOT sign a lease here. Here’s why:
Price: Rent has increased steadily each year, with no noted improvements in the building. You can pay half as much and live in a nicer town home or apartment of the same quality down the street.
Leasing office: I had numerous issues with the leasing office while being a resident here. They are not helpful at all and will charge you for every little detail of your room when moving out. Ex. I was charged $85 for leaving command strips on my wall, during the inspection I was instructed to leave them there so they could have a professional take them off. Command strips do not leave marks/damages on the wall.
If you have a problem with your room or the building, the leasing office will hire a third party vendor to fix the issue. It is not convenient at all and they take no responsibility. Ex. There was a wifi outage that lasted more than a week. The leasing office was no help and directed us to call the wifi company directly, rather than doing it themselves. When we called, the wifi company told us that the View did not pay their wifi bill that month. We live in a student community and were without internet connection for over a week because management did not pay the bill. This perfectly summarizes how things are ran here.
Mold: when first moving into my apartment, there was black mold all over the washing machine. The leasing office told us to deal with it, and we would frequently have to spray MoldX to control the amount of mold in the machine that cleaned our clothes.
Parking: The parking situation here is a nightmare. You have two options Park your car in a cage that frequently breaks down. Pay double the price for a real parking spot.
Utilities: For my 3 person apartment, the utility cost was around $60 per person, per month. This seems unusually high considering the amount of energy that we were using. Even in summer months when there was either 0 or 1 person in the apartment, we were still paying $60 per person, per month. Paying the same amount of money when less/no people are living in the apartment leads me to believe this is a scam.
Elevators: the elevators were due for an inspection for over a year. Expired on 8/22 and was not updated until 8/23. Another example of the carelessness from the leasing office.
Don’t want to take the elevator? No problem, take the steps that smell like sewage or have throw up on them. It took 4 calls and 2 months for the leasing office to clean puke on the steps.
Renewing my lease was a terrible mistake. We were told to keep our same unit we would have to resign our lease by October after first moving in August. There is a reason why they have to beg tenants to renew their lease with Visa gift cards.
Subletting your apartment here is nearly impossible, as most people who sublet look for houses with cheap rent. If you are planning on subletting your apartment, this is not the place for you.
If you want to live in a place where rooms flood, black mold grows rapidly, and management is terrible, then this is the place for...
Read moreThough I signed a lease here in 2020, I just moved out this July 31st, 2022. I rented because it was a nice location and would be a good option for living through the pandemic (better than a dorm, just more frustrating). I lived on the 5th floor and the view was nice and the apartment was BRAND NEW, however they charged more rent to live on the 5th floor, because we apparently got access to a roof top patio, which was promised in 2020, and then NEVER finished and we were never granted access to this patio. In our lease they said we had to be out at 12 pm on the 31st for move out, but then they sent out an email the night before (july 30th) at 3:30 pm saying we had to be out at 8 am, saying we would be charged a considerable amount if we were not out by then, a very LARGE inconvenience and way too early, I have never heard of any complex forcing its residents out at 8 in the morning on a Sunday, weird. Also, that is not something they can legally do because it is not stated in anyone's lease. During my stay at the view, I experienced people being stuck in the elevators, my car being locked in the KLAUS parking system (usually in the evening when no one is there to fix it), no one parking in their correct spot, down stairs coffee machine being broken or needing assistance every time I tried to use it, dirty floors (I had to make several requests to have the 5th floor hallway cleaned because it had been several weeks and there was mold growing on a drink spill that had been there for 2 weeks), hard to reach staff, office closing early many of the days, unmarked maintenance men knocking on our doors (they were actual maintenance guys though), constant and loud fire alarms, thin walls, the AC being shut off every time the fire alarm goes off, the fire alarm being RIGHT over top of the oven making it go off every time the oven is over 400 degrees F, and the property manager not sticking to the information STATED in our LEASE. I bet I will not get my security deposit back too. Displeased and happy to not live...
