Great experience with my wife and 2.5yo toddler and definitely will be back again. Really glad a place like this exists so close to us!
This was our first time fishing for all of us, but I've been watching YouTube videos to get into freshwater fishing to take my little. My little has been in a marine life phase for over a year, so we thought it would be great to show him farm to table by visiting this trout farm.
Pam got us orientated with the lay of the land, tips/tricks, and do's/do not's of the farm. We started off at the pools at the far end where our little enjoyed feeding the trout. Then later moved back to the fishing ponds (the smaller of the two trout ponds) and each of us caught a fish with little effort. Everything you need to catch, net, and unhook/dispatch the fish are provided. We had Pam clean our fish, took them home on ice, and had them for dinner with a side of sauteed oyster mushrooms. *Chef's kiss. Our little ate his fill of trout and loved the fish skin. Even though our little loves live fish, this was a great first time exposure for our little to see the whole process of fishing (bait, hook, rod/line, netting, dispatching the fish, the cleaning/gutting, etc) in a safe, fun environment with guaranteed results to keep him entertained.
Personal recommendation is to bring a cooler, bucket or container and some ice (we brought ~1-2 gallons of ice cubes in a 5 gal bucket), especially if you're planning to take time fishing or commuting back home before cooking the fish up. Ambient temps are warming up and I got the feeling a lot of first time fishers/visitors were not icing their...
Read moreI haven't been here in quite a long time. This was a favorite thing to do as a family when my kids were younger. My youngest now 22, we all discussed a visit very soon. I had to respond here even though I haven't been here in years after reading the issues like bullying and others making their own rules. It really frustrates me when people act this way because they are "seasoned fishers". Rules are in place for a reason and it's idiots like that who ruin it for everyone. I like to fish and know how to ffish but when at this trout farm, I follow the rules like a civilized human being. Plus it's a different experience and the kids love it. I can take them fishing any time with regular poles and equipment but when here, usually after a tour of a couple wineries, we stop, catch our dinner and head home. Anyone reading this who's been upset from previous experiences of being told to do or not do something because you don't understand why these rules should apply to such a grand fisherman like yourself, and this note is too close to home, do the good people who own this place as well as those of us visiting a huge favor and go somewhere else that fits your skill level better like a carnival with surprise on a hook behind the curtain game. Sometimes people just suck. Especially those who are incapable of playing nice or doing something just for the kids. Stay home. Oh, I have no clue who the owners are. I'm pretty sure these are different owners than when I used to come. We now plan on going in the next week or so. Have a great day...unless you resemble these remarks, then just...
Read moreGreat little trout farm! I brought my six year old there for his first fishing experience and we definitely got all the high points and none of the lows that sometimes come with fishing. He caught two 17" trout in about 30 minutes and walked away grinning. The fish were active, energetic, healthy looking, and tasted great. This is a well kep facility and they have all the right stuff to get little ones interested in fishing.
I'll save wearing waders all day to stand out in the rain and not getting a single bite for 6 hours for him when he's older and more attuned to adversity.
Regarding the people saying the owner/operators are cranky....they are a little cranky! Get over it. My experiences with them were good. They were obviously sarcastic and having fun. If you can't take that... go find a more tender...
