My wife has taken our kids here a couple times and they seem to love it. I came for the first time on a Saturday night and overall I thought it was pretty cool. The vibe is cool, the security is available and it’s 95% a great and clever concept. It’s absolutely a fantastic concept but it needs some polishing. It’s great to have so many cultural elements right there within a few steps. But, the food that i tried was simply disgusting. My kids love this boba place with plenty of options for flavors except they all tasted like the main ingredient was foot. The empanadas we got were so saturated with oil it was literally dripping down my fingers into my palm after grabbing the thing and taking one bite! I’m not exaggerating. But that’s not what the problem was with my experience. We drove an hour to visit and the first thing we did was use the restroom. Three teenagers or young adults were in one stall smoking crack or meth or whatever and it definitely wasn’t pot. Then, 3 different times throughout the short period we were there, we witnessed young men being absolutely putrid and vile with their actions, language and attitude right in front of little kids, young adults acting like they’re at a college party stumbling, cussing, and screaming like it was a frat party. There was trash, vomit and cigarette butts laying everywhere. Which is a shame because there are trash cans everywhere. I’m a smoker and was still baffled by the fact that anyone can smoke, vape and blow it out with zero limitations. I respect other people’s comfort levels so I walked back to my car when I wanted to smoke. Good thing is the parking was very close proximity. This place has infinite potential to be a staple of the town and the surrounding areas. My only concern is with how the younger people are free to act like young people. I get it and I’m not saying these people should be excluded, but when 16 and 20 year olds are partying like 16 and 20 year olds do, it takes away from what the adults want to experience. Take that shit to ybor or st Pete first Fridays or bars and clubs. I don’t want my kids hearing about how this kid screwed his girl, or the N word belted out over and over or seeing a drunk chick puking on a wall with nobody bothering to help or clean it up. Again, 95%!of the people and staff were remarkable and from multiple cultures. But the other 5% made me miserable and ruined my experience. If my kids and other kids weren’t present, then I can tolerate the immature behavior of few because I was that immature person at one point. But I had the decency not to spew it on the general public and young children. It wasnt so filthy that one couldn’t have a good time but it was more littered than it should have been. Theres trash cans within a few steps everywhere you go, so I couldn’t see why I was stepping on broken plastic wear and wrappers and cigarette butts everywhere along the sidewalks. People smoking and vaping everywhere. But it could’ve been a bad night or an anomaly or something. 3/5!stars for the idea and concept. Clean up the riffraff and it’ll stump most of the family night life...
Read moreIt's a great food adventure that's worthy of a drive from Brandon/Valrico. A unique container park concept that I think is way better than Channelside (Sparkman Wharf). It's true that you don't have the view of the bay, but Krate at the Grove offers so much more. It has something for everyone. Do you like tasting a little of everything? Then this is the place for you. There are foods from countries and regions all around the world such as Asian, Puerto Rican, Peruvian, Cuban, Jamaican, French, Greek, Mexican, Hawaiian, Venezuelan, and Mediterranean. They have ice cream, fruit paletas, baked goods, fried foods, charcuterie, pizza, hot dogs, salad, cocktails, candy, cigars, beer, and so much more. There are some boutique type shops in between but I wouldn't say it's a good shopping venue yet. If you want to shop, then you can walk across the parking lot to the Grove which has all kinds of shopping. I mean, it's all right there. Parking is free, and there is plenty of parking spaces.
There are some pros and cons. Many businesses aren't open until after 1pm (some even later than that). There were a few places open during my morning visit. It was also a good time to take in the local art while it's cool and quiet. I think that was my favorite part of this visit aside from having a pastry at Bakery-X in a warm and inviting atmosphere. You can always retreat to World Market and come back later to visit more shops that have opened for business. Just check the hours before your visit. Indoor seating in some of these restaurants are limited. I'm hearing that most people go there in the evening when there are events scheduled. Hence, they have lots of outdoor seating for entertainment.
I think the one disappointment for me was that Blush Champagne Bar doesn't open until 1pm. I'll have to go back again real soon to try it. It's going to take many more visits to taste my way through it all. There are new restaurants opening up soon as well. It's really an exciting...
