Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) Nestled amidst the breathtaking beauty of Lake Tahoe, a hidden gem awaits those seeking an unparalleled relaxation experience: the Japanese Fermented Cedar Bath! As one of only two of its kind in North America, this unique wellness retreat promises a harmonious blend of serenity and invigoration that leaves you rejuvenated both in body and spirit. From the moment you step foot into the tranquil enclave housing the bath, a sense of calm envelops you. The aromatic notes of cedarwood gently waft through the air, setting the stage for a meditative journey. The bath itself, rather than water, is meticulously shaved wood from Japanese cedar that has undergone a traditional fermentation process. The warm hue of the wood and the gentle steam rising from the shavings invite you to immerse yourself in this sensory oasis. What truly sets this experience apart is the delicate balance between calming tranquility and invigorating energy. As you sink into the cedar bath's embrace, the warm, fluffy shavings caresses your skin, releasing tension with every passing second. The subtle scents of cedar promote a state of relaxation, gradually melting away the worries of the outside world. I found myself captivated by the feeling of burrowing myself deeper into the wood, then coming back out when it was too hot. So unique! The magic of this bath experience is further highlighted by the personal journey it took me on. I suffer from severe PTSD, and I often find myself hyper-alert and easily startled. However, during my time in the Japanese Fermented Cedar Bath, a remarkable sense of tranquility enveloped me--my senses felt both soothed and grounded. The absence of startle reactions during the experience was a revelation, a testament to the power of this immersive therapy and Tim's professionalism and calm demeanor. In addition to the transformative impact on the mind, the cedar bath also brings forth physical benefits. I have a nerve disease in my right foot (CRPS, think Taking Care of Maya) which can make heat on my affected foot extremely painful. I am so pleased that my foot felt good after, and I had no trouble with the temperature at all. With Lake Tahoe's pristine beauty as a backdrop, this journey into relaxation is truly a symphony for the senses. The Japanese Fermented Cedar Bath in Lake Tahoe is a rare gem, offering a sanctuary for both the weary traveler and those seeking respite from the pressures of modern life. Its harmonious blend of tranquility and invigoration, coupled with its profound impact on the senses, makes it an experience unlike any other. For me, it was a moment of profound connection, where the beauty of nature and the soothing powers of the bath combined to create an unforgettable tapestry of healing. If you're in search of a serene escape that transcends the ordinary, this unique oasis is a must-visit destination.

My boyfriend and I recently came here to try cedar baths for the first time and we both loved them! It was such a unique experience, unlike anything we have done before. The cedar is so warm and comfortable. It cradles and supports your entire body in such a unique way. I would describe it like you’re being wrapped in a warm, pillowy hug. You can easily burrow yourself deeper if you want more heat, or move to the top if the heat is too much for you. They play relaxing music and you just become immersed in the calming warmth and earthy smell of the cedar. Half-way through they will come check on you and bring a cool towel for your forehead. It was so relaxing and comfortable. The facility is very nice and clean. They have a changing room with robes, slippers and disposable undergarments, if needed. Everything is very private and comfortable. They dig holes in the cedar for you to get in privately, then once you get in and cover yourself with the cedar, they come in and make sure you are fully covered and comfortable. When you’re done, you get out and brush yourself off using an exfoliating brush, which felt so good! Each room has its own private double-shower to wash off before heading to the cool-down lounge. There you can just relax, hydrate and enjoy the view of the lake until you’re ready to go. It was a lovely experience and I’m so glad we decided to try it out. We felt energized and rejuvenated for the rest of the day, and slept so well that night. My skin was also very soft after, which was an added bonus. Someone even commented on my “radiant glow” after. It was a very cool experience that I’d recommend everyone try. The owner was so nice and knowledgeable about the origins of cedar baths and benefits, etc. It’s very exciting to have something like this here in Tahoe!

Wow! I enjoyed an incredibly relaxing and hydrating experience at Tahoe Forest Bath. My skin feels silky and hydrated; my muscles are relaxed; and I let go of tension and stress I’ve been holding. I was immersed in a mildly naturally scented bath of fermented Port Orford cedar shavings for twenty minutes. Within the United States, this unique experience can only happen here in South Lake Tahoe or Bodega Bay. Tahoe Forest Bath is partnering with Japanese experts to create a healthful and restorative treatment using unique enzymes and cedar from northwestern U.S. When I arrived, Tim carefully explained the process, showed me the various rooms where the cedar baths occur, where I could change clothes, shower, relax before and after the treatment. While the outside of the building is an understated older commercial building, the inside is updated and is tastefully decorated and calming. The best part about the location is the incredible views from the relaxation room (where you wait for your treatment and relax and enjoy some water following your treatment). You can see Lake Tahoe, the mountains to the west and the meadow adjacent to Kahle Rec Center. I highly recommend you experience a cedar bath at Tahoe Forest Bath- you will feel rejuvenated!

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the Cedar Enzyme Baths at Tahoe Forest Baths, and I must say it was an extraordinary journey of relaxation and rejuvenation. From start to finish, my visit was nothing short of magical. Upon entering the serene premises I was greeted by a warm and friendly staff who immediately made me feel welcome. The ambiance exuded tranquility, with soft music and the soothing scent of cedar in the air, setting the stage for what was to be an unforgettable experience. The Cedar Enzyme Baths themselves were a revelation. As I immersed myself in the warm, fragrant cedar tub, I could feel the stress and tension melting away. The enzyme-rich mixture worked wonders on my skin, leaving it soft, supple, and glowing. The healing properties of the bath were truly remarkable, as I could feel a renewed sense of energy and vitality coursing through my body. What impressed me most was the attention to detail and personalized care provided by the staff. They took the time to explain the process and answer any questions I had, ensuring my comfort throughout the entire session. The therapists were knowledgeable and skilled, creating a peaceful atmosphere where I could fully surrender to the therapeutic benefits of the bath.
