Stella's Homemade Ice Cream — Attraction in Conway

“The proof of the pudding is in the eating” is the original proverb and refers to trying out food to know whether it was good. Thus, my second attempt to try a shake at Stella’s. My choice of ice cream was the peanut butter pie and kudos to Riley as it had a smoother, thicker consistency with the flavored ice cream blended in. The true test was that the straw stood on its own.

Before moving to Conway we lived in Surfside Beach and made a number of trips to the original location in Murrells Inlet for their homemade ice cream. Now, being Conway residents we were more than happy to hear that they had remodeled a former gas station and were now serving their own in-house handcrafted hard ice cream and cakes. Using original recipes and the highest quality ingredients to produce a top of the line product right on-site and nearly everything made from scratch. From shakes to sundaes, scoops to specialty bowls, floats to flurries, cakes to cones they have you covered. With over 30 flavors of ice cream one can be hard pressed to narrow it down to a single scoop. We went with a simple cookie dough shake. We were disappointed as it had more of a “milk” consistency not the creamier, thicker texture that a straw could stand up in. And being so thin most of the cookie dough sank to the bottom with only a smattering of debris barely flavoring the milk. Hopefully a one time miss. Interior is open and airy with repurposed overhead garage doors with limited seating inside and a large outdoor patio with picnic tables, tables and chairs and outdoor games in the former...

We rode our bikes around Conway and stopped here to get ice cream, to clarify we rode 15 miles in 90f. I stood in line for 15 minutes as it was packed and the cashier was so slow, when I finally get to order they mention it's cash only as the computers went down (I'm standing in line visibly dripping sweat from my forehead)... I only had 5 dollars in cash which he promptly said I could get a single scoop in a cup. I said all I wanted was a single scoop in a waffle cone and he just said no so I walked out (I was ready to pay full price with my card so I'm not looking for handouts). He lost our business and our friends business, unfortunate that some lady in line had to offer us cash to buy our ice cream which we turned down. That dollar you saved cost you hundreds. Won't be going back

Edit based on their response: Did I ask for free ice cream in my review? No... I fully intended on paying full price for my ice cream had your card reader not gone down. It seems your customer relations department is in shambles based on that gross response from you. When another Conway resident offers to give me 20$ cash and you can't spare a .15 waffle cone when I'm already handing you 5$ cash because of your failing card readers tells me all I need to know about what type of...

First off, I am so sick of ice cream shops not selling ice cream they make. That's a huge pet peeve of mine so 5 stars for being exactly what an ice cream shop should be, homemade ice cream!! I love that and that's what sets this business apart. This is a newer business, so I will also post my criticisms... but please know this is all the best intentions because I want to come here often and always. I love the waffle cones, yum! The ice cream consistency is very nice and creamy. I love the location and the esthetic. The prices are good and they could even be slightly higher in my opinion. It's hand crafted! I love that they are open through the winter. It's my favorite season to eat ice cream out!! No melting ice cream ha. The coffee ice cream was great! It's hard to find a good coffee ice cream. The oreo was also delicious but I would have liked more chunks of oreo. I think the oreo is blended, which is great, but I would have appreciated bigger/more pieces of oreo throughout. The butter pecan is very good, It's fresh pecans and you can taste it. Owner has sold me on a hot fudge sundae. So excited to try it!!.
