During a recent visit to Conway, SC, with my parents, we had the pleasure of dining at The Trestle. Coming all the way from Seattle, we were instantly charmed by its outdoor seating which offered a delightful ambiance reminiscent of a leisurely cruise strip, bustling with friendly locals, classic cars, and motorcycles. It truly made us feel right at home. As someone who follows a mostly vegetarian diet with the occasional chicken, finding satisfying dining options can sometimes be a challenge. However, The Trestle exceeded my expectations with their menu variety, catering to my dietary preferences effortlessly. The highlight of my meal was undoubtedly the fried green tomatoes, which I can only describe as “my jam”. They were so good that I highly recommend anyone visiting Conway make a stop at this restaurant to try them. In summary, The Trestle is a must-visit spot in Conway, SC, for its inviting atmosphere, dietary-inclusive menu, and especially for its exceptional fried green tomatoes. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, it promises a dining experience that feels like a warm embrace from the city itself.

Recent house purchase got us calling Conway home and this local cafe and bakery one of our favs. Located in the historic downtown beautiful Conway and the tranquil Riverwalk, one can stroll the likes of Main Street and reminisce of days gone by. Step into this small town eatery and find a home cooked, made from scratch meal at a reasonable price. Few doors down and one can peruse fresh doughnuts, cakes, pastries and their famous sour dough bread at the bakery. The Breakfast Plate Special got me two eggs made to order, home fries substituted for grits at an additional price, a choice of bacon, ham or sausage and their own sour dough toast. The two over easy eggs were cooked perfect, a nice slice of smoked ham, loved the home fries with cooked potatoes, peppers and onions and the ever famous sour dough bread. Breakfast was spot on and worth every bite. Service was friendly and efficient, even as the early afternoon crowd ebbed and flowed around us. Soon to be regulars here.

My mom grew up in the south so I thought I understood southern hospitality. This bakery and restaurant epitomize unpretentious neighborhood feels on a Saturday morning. The servers were friendly and gave me a great recommendation for the homemade chicken salad sandwich (the kind with chunks of fresh chicken, crunchy celery and only a little mayo on the softest white bread. It's exactly how my imaginary southern grandmother would make it). There was a local musician playing country music outside, with his wife watching him adoringly (couple goals!!). I also appreciate that their side salad was piled high with chunks of fresh vegetables. This is obviously the local hangout where people from all walks of life come together to eat among friends. Good food and friendly smiles.

Very very very disappointed in this place. My first try to visit here was Friday. Posted hours are until 6pm. When we walked up at 5:05, the door was locked and employee counting register. Second attempt, this morning. They were closed until 8:45 for a meeting (it at least was posted on the door), so I came back after said meeting. The sweets I purchased were good and I mentioned to the lady working that I had such bad luck catching them open. She said we are open 6 to 6. I told her about Friday. She responded that they sometimes close early when it's slow. So when my kids got home from school and asked if they could come here, we headed out the door. We walked in at 4:58. The woman was at the door I thought opening it for me, but I answered my cell phone (husband out of town, so I wasn't rejecting that call), she backed away from the door instead of opening it and walked away from us. I asked her if we could sit while pointing to a table (there were several occupied tables). She told us we could, but that they close at 5. I said I was sorry and I didn't want to keep anyone late, but I thought the hours were until 6. She said winter hours are until 5. I told her that I was just told this morning that the hours are until 6. She said, no it's 5, but you can stay if you want to. I asked my kids to come along and told her I was sorry to bother her. I had planned to order a birthday cake for my son who turns 7 on Friday. I had even mentioned it to the nice lady that morning. But since I was obviously not welcome, I decided to just leave. And I realized that she was racing to the door to try to lock it before we walked in, not to open it for us. And while I felt I was being rude for answering my phone, I wasn't welcome anyways.

Sadly I won't be returning. I hope the owners will post the correct hours and advise all of their employees of the changes. I surely hope it's not an employee that was TRYING to close early when they were still busy. If anyone knows of a good bakery in town, please let me know.

I also emailed the business at the address on their website, though it appears to only be for placing orders. Having just moved to Conway from Surfside in November, this sure wasn't the experience I was hoping for. Most Surfside businesses are...

My 1st visit was nice with a great waitress. She was extremely nice for being a new person on the job. My 2nd was totally a turn around in the bottom of the tank. Again this waitress was new a bit nervous which wasn’t a big thing to our family. The waitress was trying her best to serve us when an older employee yelled at her to get another guest order before placing our order, which she obediently did. Then my daughter for some reason looks in here glass of tea and there was a roach in it. We politely showed it to an older waitress and she pretended like it wasn’t there and got another glass of tea and came out and sort of just sat it on the edge of the table not saying a word. Then on a visit to the restrooms, again roaches. There was six people in our group we was seated at a small picnic table, but a table next to where we was seated became vacant, again the same older waitress walked by and my husband asked if we could move to that table, she responded with the statement of I don’t have time to clean it and walked off. At this time we had been there 45 mins with no service other than drinks and the new waitress went about serving the other tables that she was told to serve after she was at our table first. Very, very poor service and rude waitresses, except for the young lady that wear glasses, she is extremely nice. My husband paid for the drinks and she showed concern for what had happened. But the other waitresses need training with attitude adjustments. Not only the service sucks but there's a roach...

So I grew up in downtown Conway. My mom worked down the street so I always ate at The Trestle. It was the best. But now with the new owners and people who do not know how to cook, it's really gone down hill. This morning I decided to get the breakfast croissant sandwich with the fried potatoes. This was my favorite growing up but today will probably be my last. The croissant itself was overdone, dark brown and chewy. The egg and cheese was fine but the sausage patty was like the one's in the freezer and was so small you needed 2 of them. Then the fried potatoes were so burnt. I didn't know what was a potato or an onion or a pepper. It was just bad. Also last week I ordered a club sandwich, pasta salad, and fried mushrooms over the phone and everything was fine. When I got there they were out of mushrooms so I asked if I could get the soup. They were out. I was like ok well I'll just get the sandwich and pasta salad. So I waited and waited. While waiting I sat at the bar and watched the young girl handle money in the register then a customer asked for a slice of pie. She took the pie out, sliced it and placed it on a plate with bare hands. No gloves and did not was them. I finally had to flag the girl down and ask about my order. She asked for my name and goes "oh it's over here on this side counter". My food was there the whole time and I waited 30 minutes. It's getting really...
