Coos Bay Manor bed and breakfast ||This beautiful historical home has many charms, including the welcoming hosts and staff. The owners live onsite and are knowledgeable about the history of the house and past occupants. The rooms are tastefully furnished with period furniture and lavish wall coverings. The bed was comfortable and the throw rugs in the bathroom were wonderfully plush. Heat is supplied through beautiful old radiators. Not knowing how to regulate the temperature I used the windows to cool the room. The door to the rooms locks on inside. Guests are provided with a key to the front door of the house, which remains locked. However, the room doors do not lock from the outside, leaving belongings at risk when you are not in the room. ||The manor is situated in a hilly section of Coos Bay and involves two sets of stairs to access the front door. The first set of stairs is old, in poor repair, and lacks a handrail. The second set has a wobbly handrail. The bedrooms are located on the second floor, so it is necessary to navigate them to reach your room. We were offered assistance with our bags but the only person available was also caring for an infant, so I didn’t feel comfortable asking. Upon registering I was told there was parking in the back that didn’t require as many stairs. I went to move my car only to find all the parking spaces were full. ||A glass of complimentary wine is provided in the evening. The second-floor landing has water, glasses, a refrigerator, a wine cooler, and implements. A lovely coffee/tea service is provided in your room at 7 AM. ||Breakfast is served in the dining room at tables separated by party but close enough to visit with other guests. The tables were attractively set. The first course was fresh strawberries and pineapple, along with a choice of juices and coffee/tea. The main course was a breakfast sandwich. There was a choice of bacon or sausage, served on a homemade sourdough English muffin, fried egg, and a mixture of sautéed vegetables. It was served with a small helping of diced potatoes. It looked sad on the plate. The presentation would have been improved had it not been served as a sandwich, rather separate items. It was difficult to eat as the vegetables made the sandwich drippy. The English muffin was heavy, and the potatoes were the frozen variety and cold. ||This is a mixed review however, my travel companion who had not stayed in a b & b before was quite impressed. The friendliness of the owners and staff compensated nicely for...
Read moreThis is a family-run B&B in a historic building once built for a Finnish industrialist. It is in a residential neighborhood but readily accessible to downtown, restaurants and nearby sights. There is a welcoming glass of wine that can be enjoyed downstairs in the living room by a large fireplace or out on the front porch, or on the large upstairs balcony/viewing deck. In the morning hot coffee/tea is delivered to your door and later a hot breakfast is prepared for you, taken in the large dining room. Parking is adequate if tight in the rear of the building. Strangely enough, you can lock your room while you are in it but when you leave the room stays unlocked. It would be nicer if one could secure one's valuables in the room on leaving for a day's sightseeing. All in all this is an interesting place to stay and the owners are very friendly and...
Read moreI had high expectations going into my stay (based on existing reviews) and they were all surpassed. I called ahead requesting a late check in and was assured that this would not be a problem. When I arrived it was well past sunset and the lights were on resulting in a very inviting feel from the beginning. After entering the manor, I was treated to a glass of wine and some lovely conversation before heading to bed. The accommodations were all nothing short of exceptional. From the house itself to the bed and bathroom amenities, everything was perfect. The next morning I found a pot of terrific hot coffee just outside my door and was treated to one of the better breakfasts that I have had in a very long while. I'm already planning my next visit to the Oregon coast and the Coos Bay Manor will absolutely be...
