I want to start this off by saying that my team and I have done over 70 escape rooms each- we love them and will find whatever new rooms we can whenever weāre traveling. With that being said, last time we were in town, we came to Red Button and played (and escaped) their Mayan room and loved it. We thought a lot of the puzzles were innovative and really fun, and for that reason chose to come back today when we were in town once again.
Unfortunately, todayās experience was a quite the letdown. Though our game master was very nice and accommodating when we showed up, the rest of the time was a bust.
We played the Alien room and escaped with 20+ minutes to spare. Though that should be exciting, we were extremely confused, because we were very aware that we had at least four puzzles left to solve. The game master came into the room, and also said to us that weād escaped but that she didnāt understand how herself (though when we were stuck at one point sheās the one who encouraged us to make the escape, when she probably should have stopped us to say āhey, wait, Iām not sure what happened hereā). Since she didnāt know what happened, and we CLEARLY didnāt know what happened, she went to speak to a coworker. She came back with the most ridiculous response Iāve ever heard- sometimes one of their keys works for multiple locks in the room. We had not tried this key before, it just happened to have opened a lock that randomly allowed us to escape. Iām sorry, but if Iām not mistaken, the entire point of an escape room is to find ways to open locks. Why would you ever knowingly have a key that works for more than one lock in the room? Because of the fact that we tried a key on any lock that we could find, and happen to have gotten this multi-use key, we missed out on a good third of the game.
When the second worker came to āexplainā to us what happened, he continued to disregard our concerns. We were supposed to accept that we were the ones who made the mistake, versus just owning the fact that their game had a flaw.
Because we were bothered by the fact that our game was cut short, we asked if there was anything that could be done for us. He said heād call his boss and came back telling us that we could use the code āREDBUTTONā for 10% off, which is the exact same discount they advertise on their website. We, again, brought up the fact that this was crazy, and he rudely said there was nothing else he could do for us. We asked if we could speak to his boss ourselves (since he walked into a different room to have the conversation and we have no clue what he said), and he reluctantly got him in the phone for us.
This conversation with the boss was the main part of this experience that really upset us. I have been to plenty of rooms with technology that doesnāt work, or locks that get stuck, but all have been handled respectfully. This boss, not sure if heās a manager or owner, was extremely dismissive and rude.
He was polite at first when asking what happened with the room, but when we told him we escaped only because one of their keys opened multiple locks, he has the audacity to tell us that āwe just found a way to escape that nobody had found before.ā After going back and forth multiple times, he continued to say we just found a new way, and that weād still gotten to experience āāmost of the game.ā FINALLY after we insisted and listed all of the puzzles we did not get to play, and said weād missed a third of the game, he came back with a āfine, then Iāll refund you a third of the cost.ā
Though we appreciate the money back, the whole situation couldāve been handled very differently, and they wouldnāt have lost 4 customers who wouldāve continued to come back to play the rest of their games.
If youāre in the market for an escape room nearby, I highly recommend Nexxus Escape rooms. The rooms are original and well-made, and the owners are a pleasure...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA crying shame!!! Despite only ONE girl, being rather enthusiastic about our experience, the rest of them team didnāt even so much as acknowledge! our existence after it was over, not even offering so much as a goodbye?!? or a thank you!?! at the end. One of which whom Who Iām pretty sure was the manager of the establishment, seemed rather low key (annoyed) at that fact that we were there. Not even trying to hide his displeasure at the fact. Though Iām Not sure of this persons actual name, all be it he was a white person. It is a travesty in itself seeing as you give this company a SUBSTANTIAL!! AMOUNT OF HARD EARNED MONEY!! For an enjoyable experience. ESPESCIALLY! In spite of the hard times we are experiencing (in regards to the pandemic health pandemic)
The clues in the space room at often times did not make sense and the game master themselves often felt like they did not even truly understand the clues or the room itself at that. But rather, tried to pass off vague explanations of clues that simply did not match up with the real answers (which also were delayed in response, and vague) one person (whom Iām sure was an upper management, based upon his demeanor) walked in, mid game, in a condescending attitude, only to point out our āerrorā do to the game masterās inability to convey instruction clearly and concisely.
A terrible, EMBARRASSING! AWKWARD!, and ultimately disappointing experience to which no PAYING CUSTOMER! Should ever have to experience! I give one only a 1 star rating and would say to anyone In The future so much as considering this escape room... your money would be better spent...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have done 3 of the 4 rooms at red button. This place is one of the best ādecoratedā I have ever seen and I have done 40+ escape rooms. The props are well thought out and there is a lot of space in each room which I have found to be rare. In my experience most themes have about 2 rooms whereas at red button there are 4+. However, the way they operate makes the rooms not very challenging. There are plaques all over the rooms giving you instructions or clues to certain puzzles. The game master also gives far too many clues unless asked otherwise. To be fair our group should have specified to begin with that we did not want clues unless asked; however, I think that 15+ clues in one game is excessive regardless. Our group would be in the process of solving a puzzle and close to the answer but would be interrupted by a clue on the screen giving it away. There is also not much flow to the puzzles and some do not even require solving to get out (we got out with at least 4 puzzles unsolved). Overall I think that red button is a good place to start for inexperienced goers but not challenging enough to be enjoyable for frequent goers.
EDIT: I am adding a star to my review for the excellent customer service I have received. Mike, the owner, sent me an email with a resolution to my experience. It is clear that he is open to the feedback provided in the reviews and aims to implement new strategies when possible. I will be returning in the future to attempt...
