This historic wharf is in need of repair and upkeep as she's constantly being whacked by mother nature and father time. Walking all the way down, the building is open to a museum of some sort. When we walked out, it was not open. A shop was closed and up for sale. There were dock repairers working on siding that was rotted, wrapped in plastic and getting replaced. There were a very few spots to sit and rest, or clean seats as gulls fly over ... a lot. Look on the floating docks where boats tie up and the grated areas are full of broken crab shells. Evidence of sea otters or seals eating them. There's a cool whale sitting bell to ring if anyone sees a whale! The folks working on the wharf and docks were friendly and committed to the restoration and work before them. Saving the wharf is quite the mission. You can leave donations in a box at the entrance of the wharf near the fence/left hand side. Extensive repair is being done in the area bulkhead near the entrance of the wharf on the right side. Welding is happening on the piling work. It looks like it's an expensive project but folks want this to happen. Without it, she'll end in the sea. The views from the far end of the wharf are astounding on a clear day. On an atmospheric day, it's moody. On snowy winter days, a step back in time. On fall days, crisp and cozy. In summer, sweet relief and bliss. Every season has its gifts. A really great spot and town area to visit. A step back in time. Architecture is just so unique. Old homes and businesses are so well cared for and loved. Sweet spot on Whidbey Island. A place to wander in. It's just the...
Read moreDowntown Coupeville is one of my favorite places to visit and shop! There's something truly special about grabbing an ice cream and taking a leisurely walk along the Wharf. Just yesterday, I had the delightful experience of seeing a month-old seal pup cleaning the boats on the dock—what a charming sight!
On clear days, the view is even more stunning; you can see the giant starfish in the water, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers. The area is well-maintained, with clean bathrooms and some picnic benches at the end of the Wharf, which are great for enjoying lunch on a sunny day.
Overall, downtown Coupeville offers a lovely blend of shopping, natural beauty, and relaxation. I highly...
