The planet fitness business is very impressive and offers a value proposition that is extremely attractive for a customer -- I would say the best I have found yet. They are very laid back about their sales approach which is one of the things that really impressed me --unlike LA Fitness. This particular branch is the best planet fitness I have ever went to! It has plenty of machines and lockers and it's two floors! I travel an extra few minutes to go specifically to this planet fitness. The only thing I don't like about Planet Fitness is their "home gym" thing. I signed up at a different gym but I am a black card member. They told me I could go to any gym I want, but each time I go to this gym, they tell me I am not a normal member there and make me sign a sheet. I told them I want to become a member there as to avoid this process and I had to do all the work of switching locations myself--on an Ipad. At this point, I'm thinking that should be the simplest thing to do--the click of a button or two on their end--however, that was not the case and in the end, they couldn't switch me due to a software issue they had, so I am stuck signing in each time. Plus, I am not sure why I have to sign a sheet each time I go anyways -- like I'm a criminal or something -- doesn't my card serve the purpose of letting people know who I am and when I was there when I beam it on the bar-code scanner? Still, it is the best gym franchise I have found and this the best valued...
Read moreHave been a member off and on for several years. One of the largest PF locations I've ever seen... tons of equipment. However, they have totally oversubscribed it. Don't even think of going there on a weeknight between 5 and 9 PM. It is flooded with high school kids who are there to hang out as much as they are to work out- which would be fine if they didn't occupy all the equipment while socializing with friends. People hoard two or three sets of dumbbells so somebody doesn't take the ones they need for their next set-- you'll only find 10 lb and 60+ lb sets during peak hours. There are 5 Smith machines and two pectoral fly machines-- if you want to use one it is like the Hunger Games. Prepare yourself- your one-hour workout will take two hours. Off peak, this place is great. Now that the summer has rolled around the place is absolutely flooded with high school kids who get to work out for free-- which is a great idea - except there are just too many of them and too little equipment, which makes it even more challenging for PAYING customers to get a workout done. I've gone as late as 9:30 PM and found the place just as packed as it is at 5 PM. If a low membership fee is what you're looking for, then you'll likely be OK with this. Otherwise, you'll likely grow very frustrated with this location and wish you had paid a few more bucks for a membership at Anytime Fitness or...
Read moreIt has everything you want in a fitness center! First, there's the steroid gorillas who spend an entire afternoon self loving their mirror reflection while monopolizing the Smith machines, pulleys, and free weights. Then there's other members who spend 20 minutes chatting on their phones between half hearted sets (I guess the "phone calls restricted to lobby" signs are solely for decoration.) Today, I was treated to a chemically enhanced goon with a terrible case of short guy syndrome glaring at me while I took nearly 6 minutes to complete my sets. What a treat! Oh, there's also the unspoken "marking your territory with a water bottle" that I particularly enjoy. This allows one to place his/her beverage on a particular machine, allowing them to roam freely around the gym without risk of losing access to the machine. A convenient, easy way to hold a machine for hours! How clever!
And the staff covers the spectrum from "polite and helpful" to "zero interaction whatsoever" (too busy on cel phone). One never knows which type they'll get when asking a question. Sorta makes things unpredictable in an incredibly annoying sort of way.
I could go on for hours, but I need to rest. I am going to start visiting during late night zombie hours. Might actually have a chance to use the equipment without a...
