Read moreIt's cool that Dallas tried to give people a place to take in the downtown skyline and it's cool that it's open 24h/day but unfortunately the main power lines going to the city also run directly down the whole canal and obstruct any picture you take. If you go down into the canal past the power lines you're then too low to get a good picture. If you plan on getting one of those epic long exposure Cityscapes then you better be good at Photoshop. Also, all of the pics you see with the reflection of the city in what looks like a river, they were all taken during flooding. Normally the canal is a creek at best and it's at the bottom. So unless it's been flooding recently don't expect those epic...

Though I will advise ladies that go alone to keep your wits about you because this area is known to have some homeless people around it. I have only gone with friends so that I'm not completely alone but I'm sure if you stayed aware of your surroundings you'd be OK. I recommend wearing a good amount of bug spray as the mosquitos here are relentless. Came home with 10 bites. Also there's not really any shade so if you come for a run or cycle it should be done early so the sun doesn't evaporate you. Nice place to watch the sunrise...
