I don’t usually leave reviews, but in an attempt to save other tightly curled women from going here, I have time today. I made an appointment to be serviced here after hearing good things people had to say on Instagram. As a tightly curly hair woman this was only the second time I got my hair straightened ever, because I just don’t trust salons. The time before this was when i was 15, well over 10 years in between both experiences. This experience further proved my point that most salons DO NOT have the education or compassion for styling tightly curly hair (sometimes known as type 4 hair). I booked for a deep condition, and press. She of course started with the deep condition and wash and then we moved back to the chair for the remainder of the appointment. Once my stylist started with the blow drying I asked her was the dryer supposed to be that hot, she informed me that yes it needed to be that hot in order to cut down on the level of pressing she’d do after. I trusted her. Then we moved on to the pressing. The flat irons were extremely hot so I asked, “you mentioned having the blow dryer heat high to avoid having to have the pressing tools up this high. My hair is smoking and smelling burnt.” She reassured me and continued. The end result of my hair was beautiful, but the damage unbeknownst to me yet had been done. The tragedy came when I washed my hair. I washed it, most of my curls did not resurface. A friend mentioned it taking a moment for all of the curls to come back so I washed it again, nothing changed, no more than 1/3 of my curls reappeared. My hair was ruined, and I was devastated. I wasn’t used to my hair looking so poor. My only option was to begin cutting it. Before I did so, I contacted pressed roots, notified them of the issue and they set an appointment for me to come in and have it looked at by a veteran stylist. At this appointment I was told, “we can’t be sure this damage wasn’t already there” even after I showed them pictures of my hair that same day before coming in. They gave me my money back in cash, after I had to demand it back when clearly the mistake was on them. I did not feel like myself with my hair in its condition. Areas of my hair the complete strand was burned and damaged, other areas were partially damage. Please do not book at this place. They lack costumer care and service and they DO NOT know how to care for tightly curled hair (4 type hair). Photo 1: a few weeks before my appointment (I’m a teacher so here you see me with my hair m, very healthy) Photo 2: an hour before my appointment, again with my healthy hair Photo 3: immediately after my press was completed (this was taken in their restroom) Photo 4: later that day still straight Photo 5: after washing it and noticing the damage Photo 6: the day of my appointment to return so they could see the damaged mess they left me with. I want black businesses to flourish, but I WILL NOT stand for the lack of professionalism

This was my first and last experience at Pressed Roots. I am not satisfied at all. This was a waste of my $100+. These pictures is 45 min after my appt. This 1st hour post silk press looks like a 2-3 week+ old silk press. After a REAL SILK press, your hair is supposed to be straight, bouncy & light. My hair was very stiff and puffy. I can stick a piece of hair up and the hair stayed! I had to ask at the end of my service did it look like I need a trim as I have not had my hair pressed in over 2 years. The lady replied with “only about an inch”. Now, the lady was not black but I gave the benefit of the doubt. She was nice and had great customer service. However, the skill was not there. As I was receiving the silk press, some sort of hair spray and oil/serum was used DURING the flat ironing process not before the blowdrying process like its supposed to. As my hair was being flat-ironed i noticed it wasn't falling like it should but again I like to give the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, the lady was just not well versed in textured hair and I suffered because of it. As you can see in the pictures, I could have made my hair stiff and puffy by doing it on my own. I submitted a review that night and was contacted by that morning for a “resolution”. I emailed them back with pictures and a video of the state of my hair, I said I did not want to go back and asked for a refund since I paid for a service “silk press” that I did not receive. They called and first offered a “root touch up since I am not happy with the outcome of my hair”. Why am I the only one not happy with the outcome? As a business, that ONLY does silk presses should be ashamed of this work too! If they are happy with it, how about add my pictures to your website and promote it as the Pressed silk press-blowout experience. Long story short. I offered to pay partially for the deep condition/wash but not the silk press because my hair was not silk pressed. The manager said they will not and do not give refunds but they’ll add 30% off my next service and a steam to my account if I decide to come back. Why would I drive over an hour, pay more of my money for someone else to play in my hair ? I don't want them touching my hair again after this result! So buyer beware!

Never in my 28 years of living have I had my hair straightened this poorly. My 10 year old niece could have done a better job. I really really REALLY wanted to like this place. I heard so many great things regarding the stylists, service, and the ambiance, but my experience was very different. There was somewhere between 4-5 people who touched my head while I was there, 2 of which seemed like they had no clue what they were doing. The fist girl who washed my hair started to apply shampoo before my head was fully wet. Thankfully another more experienced stylist took over. 2 people were blow drying my hair at once, which is fine except one of them was not blow drying my hair properly. My hair still had lots of tangles on the side she was doing. She then started to straighten my hair…while the other girl was still blow drying my hair! And she started at my temples instead of the back! Make it make sense. The more experienced stylist unfortunately finished her portion and left me with the less experienced one… then ANOTHER stylist came to assist her again. I can tell this stylist knew the other didn’t know what she was doing and was just trying to help, but I wish she just would have taken over for her. I understand I have a lot of hair, and it’s thick, but my hair is not difficult to straighten and any stylist worth a damn could have done a better job. My hair literally looks blow dried. It’s strange because they both did several passes over each section with the flat iron (which I was worried about) but I’m starting to think the flat iron wasn’t even on. I will, however give them some credit for giving me a discount and offering me a complimentary future service. I don’t want to turn everyone off to this place because every other client’s hair was LAID except for mine. Just make sure you ask for someone who’s experienced. I’m not going to name the girl who did my hair because she was very sweet, but I hope after my complaint the staff will make sure she gets the training she needs.

I’ll start off by saying I really do like my hair I think it came out really nice I’m just really disappointed with my experience which is the only reason I booked. I usually do my own presses and I trim my own hair but I’m pregnant and I wanted to spoil myself and let someone else do it . I came in the front desk staff was very nice gave me some water it was great . I came in with my 4a hair in its natural state , curly hair products still in. I know my hair wasn’t clean but I was paying to get it washed , so I thought it’d be fine. My stylist came and grabbed me and began detangling my hair at the chair with just a spray bottle and a brush . I was confused as to why we didn’t go straight to the sink bc detangling would be a lot easier with conditioner in my hair but since I’d never been before I wasn’t sure if this was just the process at the salon so I let her work. The detangling at the chair was unpleasant and actually really hurt but I know my hair was tangled so I sat through. I think the stylist realized it’d be easier to do it at the sink bc she only detangled half of it and said I’m going to do the rest in the bowl . We move over and she wets my hair one section at a time to detangle the other side of my head . More comfortable than the original method but I wish she would have just detangled my hair when she got to the conditioner because that would have made the whole process easier . She finally finished detangling and she begins shampooing my hair. I was looking forward to getting my hair washed because that’s the best part of getting your hair done however I was disturbed by her scrubbing her nails through my scalp instead of massaging the shampoo into my hair :( it literally felt like she was scratching my scalp with her nails. the shampoo was painful but I powered through. She shampooed me once and then made sure to tell me there was still product in my hair . I knew this bc I use hair gel in my hair and I informed her of what it was but the way she said it , it made me feel like I was at fault for not having squeaky clean hair before coming in. One of the whole reasons why I booked the appointment was because with me being pregnant I get so out of breath washing my own hair, so I was excited to have someone else do it and for this to be a curly hair salon I think it would be normal to see product in a customer’s hair while washing. I personally didn’t feel like it was a big enough deal for her to let me know. It really only made me feel self-conscious in the moment and I almost second-guessed myself on whether or not I should’ve washed my hair before coming. I don’t think her comment would’ve made me feel as bad if she was talking to me. Up until this point it had been about 30 minutes since I’d been in the salon and she really hadn’t said anything to me except for small directions like “sit up super quick” “let’s go to the bowl” “I’m gonna put this towel around your neck” I saw all the other stylist talking to their clients having conversations, but she wasn’t talking to me at all, which I didn’t mind. I had things to keep me entertained, but it’s Just the principle! Needless to say, the conditioning went well my deep conditioning went well. I enjoyed the remainder of the shampoo . We head back over to the chair. She blow dry my hair and begins pressing it. And overall, I do like the outcome of my hair. I just was really disappointed by the experience itself, which is the only reason why I booked the appointment in the first place. I’m sad because I don’t know if it was just the stylist or if that is the routine of the salon itself, but I haven’t made up my mind on whether or not I’ll...

UPDATE: The manager Kevin contacted me within 24 hours of my visit to make it right! He genuinely apologized and reinstated my credit and also gave me an add on which he insisted on providing after I told him it wasn’t needed! I was very pleased with his response and he assured me that what I encountered was a one off situation. I have gone back to the Plano location since then and was pleased with the service received. I am gonna try the Dallas location when time permits with high hopes that I will be happy when I leave. Overall, Kevin thank you for being a stand up guy and putting your customers first! I really appreciate you for reaching out and having a genuine and personable conversation with me!

I’ve been going to Pressed for almost a year now and I have a VIP membership. I usually frequent the Plano location as I reside in the Far North Dallas area but needed to get my hair done and my preferred location had no availability. The Plano location is so accommodating, upbeat and friendly, but I can’t say the same for the Dallas location especially the front desk girl, Shayla. She is VERY rude. I booked my appointment the weekend prior but at the time of my appointment I received a text, THE DAY OF MY APPT, advising they would need to cancel bc 3 of their stylists called out. I am pregnant so I slept in and then woke up and took down a head full of medium sized box braids which took about 3-4 hours. When I noticed they were canceling my appt and offering a discount (which won’t help me because as a VIP member I pay ahead for all appointments) or to reschedule (which I could do myself) I called and spoke to Shayla to let her know that I had taken down my hair and this was an inconvenience as I have a XMAS photoshoot with my husband today. Before I could explain she said that’s fine come in and “we will see” and hung up in my face. As I was leaving my home I got a flat tire, which caused my husband to come rescue me, then I got caught in about 10 minutes worth of traffic. My appointment was then cancelled and I lost a credit. I understand policy however being a valued customer I would’ve expected some type of accommodation since they had no problem inconveniencing me without any recourse. I am disappointed that I had to use two credits for one appointment and the attitude and energy given off by Shayla. I complained about this at the desk and said “it was fine” in which she replied “oh it’ll have to be fine” and rolled her eyes. As a paying and OVER-TIPPING customer I do not appreciate that type of treatment. I will never come back to the Dallas location as I heard the customer service was poor but I guess I needed to see for myself. My stylist Chanel was awesome this review is at no fault of hers but I will be taking my business back to the Plano location. I’ve NEVER had this type of issue there and I’d also like to say I have NEVER been late to any of my appointments (I’ve been going about twice a month) so this was a one off and I was treated poorly. I am very upset. I will never refer any of my “sisters” to...
