Read moreLooking for a place to have dinner, we saw the sign for Five Rivers Indian Cuisine at the Westlake Shopping Center and decided to try it. As we walked up, it appeared to be a take out with a cooking area behind glass.
We walked in, looked at each other, and almost simultaneously said 'it smells so good!'. We sat at a table towards the back and ordered an assortment of dishes to share.
Samosas first. Very tasty, crispy (and not greasy) with tamarind and mint sauces and with the hot chai tea, it was a lovely start.
Then came a Lamb Curry. Chunks of tender lamb in a smooth curry sauce. This was a bonus. It was ordered by another table but they brought it to us by mistake. We loved it! (I offered to add it to our tab but they insisted it was complimentary).
Lamb Korma. The lamb was tender in a flavorful sauce sprinkled with cashews. Yum.
Fish Tikka Masala. Flaky chunks of salmon in a smooth and creamy flavorful sauce. Oh yes.
Saag Paneer. Cheese cubes in creamed spinach. Mild but flavorful.

Plenty of parking along Southgate Avenue, within the shopping center and along Lake Merced Blvd and Park Plaza Drive. If you have banking, grocery, medical or shopping needs, Westlake Shopping Center is the place for you.
Although the renovation of Westlake Shopping Center has added more patrons from residents and tourists alike, there have been complaints on parking and pedestrians. Parking is free at this shopping center, but it can be tricky especially if you plan to shop at Trader Joe's, Ross, TJ Maxx or Safeway. Furthermore, pedestrians cross without looking both ways, so it's best to keep an eye out for them along Southgate and Lake Merced (Arco Gas Station) as well as Southgate and Palmcrest (Burlington Coat Factory and Union Bank).
Overall, I live 3 minutes away from Westlake Shopping Center, so it's a convenient stop for groceries or dining. I won't stop coming here, but Westlake Shopping Center AND Serramonte Shopping Center are becoming crowded. I wish there was more space, but this is...
