Not Horrible, but also Not Great. I've lived in LF for approxmetly 7 years now [10 years in Daphne]. If you are content to live the not-so-perfect POA/HOA Lifestyle then Lake Forest will be a fine place for you to call home. It truly is a nice community for families with children & retirees that enjoy golf! Great schools here too. I appreciate that it is not a cookie-cutter-neighborhood, it is lovely, but I can't wait to get out of here! Too much Membership Dues and Drama - not enough Peacefulness or Privacy for my liking. Our current Board of Directors [2021] is MUCH improved from the past BOD's, there are many current volunteers working hard on the Board and in various Committees to help improve LF for everyone... but a lot of damage has been done that needs fixing. Our 'Million Dollar Yacht Club' has been a HUGE dissapointment to me. It is also nonesense that my gold Membership Card says "Yacht & Country Club" when our community has never in the time we've lived here ever come anywhere close to living up to such a swanky title. I also think that our Management Company, ICON, has no business in a neighborhood such as ours [from what I hear they work with actual swanky places and know nothing about a regular community like ours]. Memebers don't get a say in many things that they deserve to have a say in... It is getting better though! But if you are moving here, just prepare yourself! My own family is moving out in 2024, Daphne has been a wonderful home to us, but Lake Forest does not make me smile & it is just getting far too crowded here on the Eastern Shore overall. We're 🎵Going Up...
Read moreIf the POA wants to reach me, then send me a letter addressed to my name, your registered homeowner and member, not "resident". I don't open what looks like spam mail or advertisements. I don't care who's sending it. Also, please explain to me why our fees were wasted by sending out fee payment books to members on auto-draft and have been since moving into neighborhood. If a payment option changes from auto pay, then order a payment book. What a waste on printing and postage for "how many houses"? Would love to know how many are on auto pay and see that bill for the unnecessary spending. I haven't been involved in the neighborhood politics, but certainly see a need for new blood. Hope new board members are more responsible of our funds than those...
Read moreNavigating this area can be rather confusing, as the street names appear to change, even on straight roads, which is somewhat disconcerting. It is definitely not a shortcut. It gives the impression that one might feel as though they are in a horror film, repeatedly driving on the same roads. The golf course and tennis courts were also hard to locate. Private organizations can be quite unpredictable with zoning...
