We came here on a Sunday afternoon because all the gardens were closed. This park is open Sunrise to Sunset. They do NOT have public bathrooms. Unless they have them when the building is open, but since it is attached to a park with basketball, play ground etc. I would think they would have a bathroom open while the park was open.
As you start to walk to the right if you're going to follow the one-way signs you will see a building/store adjacent to the walkway. That is called J and J Farms I highly recommend you take a walk in there. I will do a separate review for them but they have fresh fruit, drinks, and a restroom.
I wasn't sure how long the walk was going to be because the site online stated it was 9 acres. However the walk only seem to be about a half a mile to a mile. They have exercise little outdoor things for stretching and push-ups. They have lots and lots of trees from all over the world. My favorite was the coffee Bean tree and the Ylang Ylang tree and both were in bloom.
Its a beautiful walk even on a sunny day due to all the tree canopies. They had people who were having a picnic in one area, waterfalls, etc.
I will be back, just wish management would add an outdoor restroom and have it open while the...
Read moreLocated in the rear of Constitution Park, the wonderful Deerfield Beach Arboretum calls itself a "tree zoo". The nine acre area has approximately two hundred trees from five different continents. In the arboretum you will find fruit trees, spice trees, exotic varieties as well as native, a butterfly garden, bamboo, wetlands, benches, picnic pavilions, a waterfall, ponds, flowers, and wildlife. Some of the wildlife you can expect to see included turtles, butterflies, wading birds, ducks, and even otters. On the day I visited I was lucky to see a hummingbird. I had never seen one in the wild before and it was a real thrill for me. There is also exercise stations along the half mile path that provide equipment as well as instructions. A rain forest at the cost of $140,000 was added to the park in 2016. There is a canal that runs along both sides of the park separating it from houses and businesses.
The arboretum is currently maintained by the Friends of the Deerfield Beach Arboretum. They offer free tours of the arboretum every Friday and on the first Saturday of the month at 10:00 am. If you are a group they request a $25 donation. You can meet in front of the recreation center...
Read moreReally cool place but the staff don’t make a ton of sense in regards to the fruit. They have an absolutely no picking policy. (Unless it falls to the ground.) Because “people like to take pictures of the fruit”. It’s a pretty Babylonian concept to have a park full of mature fruit producing trees on public land just for pictures. Not the simply joy of a little kid trying his first lychee or surinam cherry. I understand the tragedy of the commons and some few would be greedy but it could be run with a lot more sense. Instead what you have are a bunch of good folks afraid to eat a piece of fruit or two, and a few kids climbing up breaking branches and stealing a ton when no-one is looking. Not to belabor the point but only in the US would we have a giant public grove of fruit trees just for show. Travel to most any other country especially in the tropics and fruit trees are widely planted in community areas for the benefit of all. Not just to take pictures of for instagram. Hopefully going forward they adjust their policies to...
