We camped for a couple nights in January of this year. The weather was very comfortable, just cool enough for a fire. Our stay was basically perfect.
Now, you have to understand that these are Teepees, not tents with mosquito netting. So you either need to bring preventative measures, or camp there when the weather is conducive to camping without bug netting. For our trip, since the weather was slightly cool, we never saw a mosquito at all. In fact, we never dealt with bugs of any sort.
The teepee is relatively traditional, and you have to open and close the ventilation flaps with long poles, which is easy enough for someone of moderate strength. These Teepees aren't 100% water proof, and in rain, they can get wet in the center. Fortunately, the area inside of them is quite large, and you can position yourself accordingly. The Teepees also have a raised platform inside, so ground moisture is of no concern whatsoever.
The fire pits at the tent sites have a built in grill, which makes fire cooking a pretty simple endeavor. Trash cans are at each site, as well as metal poles with hooks to hang them on. Also, water and electricity are right there behind the tent, which is a nice convenience. The sites all have a picnic table, too.
The restrooms are just across the street, basically, and I found them to be generally pretty clean. There's also a washout sink behind them if you need to clean dishes, so you don't have to run soapy water all over the ground.
There's also a camp store, open until 5:00pm or 5:30pm, which is a short walk away. They sell some camping essentials (bug spray, toiletries, a little food, s'mores kits), as well as firewood. Though it's stored in a shed, I found the firewood to be a little damp until it dried out, so it may be worth bringing a bag or two of firewood from Home Depot or wherever you get it.
Quiet Waters Park is one of our favorites. They have a water park (open depending on the season), Ski-Rixen, mountain biking trails, volleyball courts, lots of good walking paths, paddleboats and canoes on the weekends, and some very good freshwater fishing.
Right around the corner from the park, there's a publix, a super target, and probably anything else you need. And if you really want to un-rough-it, there are restaurants nearby that have take out and delivery. Balcon de las Americas is a favorite Columbian restaurant of ours, and it's right across from the park entrance.
All in all, if you have the wisdom to either come prepared or use the Teepees in fair weather, you can have a really great time. We sure did. If the weather is going to be unfavorable, or if bugs are going to be a major concern for you, try to get one of their pre-pitched tent sites. Unfortunately, there are no sites here for pitching your own tent.
For a quick, spur-of-the-moment or last-minute camping trip, the Quiet Waters Park Teepees can be a...
Read moreI used to enjoy walking and the occasional jog at this park. There's plenty of parking and space, as it's very wide open. My family and I have also come out a few times to sit on the benches and have conversation. However, there are a few issues that have made our experiences less enjoyable.
First, there are frisbee golfers who seem to lack consideration for others. They often throw their frisbees toward people and personal property instead of aiming for the designated targets. On one occasion, a group of guys threw frisbees directly toward my family and me while we were sitting on a bench that wasn't on a frisbee path. We had to move to avoid getting hit. Another time, a guy threw his frisbee across the street, nearly hitting me while I was jogging to the parking lot. Lastly, there was a time when a guy looked directly at me standing in the parking lot next to my car, saw that I was watching him, and he proceeded to throw his frisbee toward me standing in the parking lot. When I grabbed my phone and began recording him, he threw the next frisbee down the actual frisbee golf path. It's disappointing to see this lack of intelligence, respect, and consideration. Even more so, it’s disheartening to think that these actions might have been racially motivated.
In addition to the frisbee golfers, there are traditional golfers. Yes, golf clubs and hard resin-covered balls golfers that practice on the opposite side. This creates a safety hazard. Just as the Frisbee golfers are inconsiderate so are the traditional golfers. They’ll pull up their car right near you and start swinging away as if you aren’t there.
Furthermore, there's a dog park, but instead of using it, some people allow their dogs to roam across the fields where others walk, jog, or have picnics. These dog owners also fail to clean up after their pets, leading to the unpleasant surprise of stepping in dog poop. Additionally, some individuals play pickleball in the parking lots with no regard for the fact people have their cars parked there.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a clean, quiet, peaceful place to walk, run, or spend time with your family, I can no longer recommend this place. It's not what it used to be. It's hit or miss. If there's hardly anyone there it may be great but when there are people it's a mixture of a few decent people with the entitled and inconsiderate bunch. If you decide to give it a...
Read moreI decided to rent a shelter for my daughter's birthday party about a month in advance, so there were plenty of options available. I carefully checked out each shelter's photos to find the best fit for our group size. However, I must admit that the pictures were misleading. I had never been to this park before, so I relied on the website to make my decision, which turned out to be a big mistake. We wanted to be near the splash adventure area, but the pictures didn't clearly show where each shelter was located. Although there were shelters inside the splash adventure area, the lack of clear information led me to choose one that was a 5-minute drive away, making it difficult to manage with a group of kids coming and going. After throwing away all my decorations and packing everything up, I decided to spend the rest of the birthday at the splash adventure place. I paid $72 for less than an hour, and on top of that, I had to sign a paper agreeing to clean up after myself and leave the shelter in good condition, but when I first got to my shelter, I found a lot of old tape under the tables and the tables were out of place, indicating that someone had moved them without returning them to their original position. I had to clean up after someone else to prepare for my daughter's birthday party. To make matters worse, there is no electricity in the shelters, which was completely unexpected considering the price I paid. I had to keep my car on in order to use my car plugs. Finally, there is no information available regarding the additional cost of the splash adventure apart from the shelter rental fee and park entrance fee. The Broward County website only mentions the entrance fee, while the Deerfield Beach city website does not mention any additional fees. It was disappointing to discover that my guests would need to pay extra.
If I ever come back, it will be to the splash place but I wouldn’t recommend the place for a celebration to anyone due to the inconsistencies I...
