One of the best places in South Florida to get authentic Colombian food and dishes, with all the lively atmosphere, and the legendary Colombian- style service. I've been to Colombia many times, and many different areas from the coastal cities like Cartagena to the mountains and Medellín, and the service in Colombia really is impressive. They always make you feel warm and welcome.
Carlos, our server, is as polite, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive as if he was the owner of the restaurant. He can tell you exactly what to expect and steer you to the foods you'll love, and at this restaurant there's a lot to love. From ultra traditional dishes to modern takes on classic plates, this restaurant will deliver the delicious flavors and home cooked feeling, and Carlos will give you all the advice you need to have a memorable dining experience. Carlos is only one of many servers at this location and I can certainly say with confidence (we've visited this location many times) that all the servers are equally friendly and efficient. Whether it's Iohana or Carlos or any of the other servers you're going to get five star service - and each one has their "specialty". Try Carlos' cappuccino and you'll see what I mean.
Pricing is mid-high, approximately $15-25/person, but it's not unreasonable for the portions you'll get and the experience. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served, each with its own specialties and dishes.
Coffee - especially Colombian coffee - goes with everything, and I can say with confidence that once you've had Colombian coffee - real deal Colombian coffee - you'll be ruined; no other coffee will ever be good enough. Carlos also makes a cappuccino that might as well be internationally recognized. Either way don't miss these caffeine delivery systems.
Also, and this is important: try the chocolo arepa with cheese. It is literally the best "arepa de chocolo" I've ever had, here or in Colombia. It's phenomenal and has the potential to change your life. The pan de bono is also excellent, and the chicharrones get the chef's kiss. Crunchy and meaty and just delicious.
Every dish is great though - from bandeja paisa to the humblest sandwich - and you can't go wrong. The bakery goods will make you want to grab a little of everything, because it all looks good.
The other locations are also very fine but I've found that the staff at this particular location are exceptional. Go on the weekend for dinner and get live music and dancing, or have a relaxed Sunday morning breakfast, Balcon has it all. I haven't had a bad experience at any of the other locations but we always go back to this one because it feels like being in Colombia.
As always, your mileage may vary. As with all of my reviews I try to cover all the different aspects of a restaurant or business, from price to service to atmosphere, but as we say in Spain "sobre gusto no hay nada escrito" and this review reflects my tastes and experiences. Go with an open mind and a hungry stomach, and I believe you'll have a pretty great experience...
Read moreI don’t know what happened at this location, but I had to update my previous review.
The restaurant is very well located and has a good parking lot. Not too many parking spots but enough to find parking space. They have a nice seating area outside; on the contrary inside they have the tables too closed to each other making the space look and feel very crowded. In this visit, we ordered sancocho and ajiaco. Unfortunately, this was not a very good experience. The servers are polite and attentive. The menu has a nice list of Colombian dishes so you can find multiple options. The flavors were very simple, missing the good taste of the Colombian food, and although both soups are different these tasted the same, exactly the same. For that reason we requested an explanation from the server and his answer is that the soup is the same but the difference is the “protein” so they cook one soup for all their dishes and the meats separate.
I don’t know what changed, but I can’t recommend this restaurant because the prices are high for the quality of food they serve. Listing the name of a Colombian dish doesn’t make it authentic Colombian food
Below is my previous review.
El Balcon de las Americas in Deerfield Beach is a nice restaurant that allows you to seat inside or outs. This location has lots of waitresses that help/serve you all the time. This time Anabela was our waitress and was very helpful, she explained the dishes very well, offer us the specials, brought us drinks and checked on us very often. The food. We ordered a bandeja paisa and mondongo. These are traditional Colombian dishes that need to be prepared correctly or they will take wrong. At this time the bandeja paisa was tasteful and served in decent portions not too much I think a good size, on the contrary, the fried pork skin or chicharron is big, the restaurant is very generous with the portion. I think the bandeja paisa is a 5 star dish at this location. Now the mondongo. Tasteful and generous this soup had mixed flavors that are perfect for a person who likes this dish. One of the issues that I have noticed with this type of soup is that if is not cooked correctly at the end it will be salty. However that is not the case at this location.
In short. You won’t be disappointed at El Balcon de Las Americas in Deerfield Beach, excellent food and excellent service.
Thank you Anabela for providing a world class...
